Chelsea Clinton Engaged

November 30, 2009 9:18 AM

ABC News has learned that Chelsea Clinton is engaged to her longtime boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky, a spokesman for former President Clinton confirmed to ABC News.

Clinton, 29, is the only child of the former president and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. She and Mezvinsky -- the son of former Rep. Ed Mezvinsky, D-Iowa, and former Rep. Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinksy, D-Penn. -- became friends in Washington, DC, and closer friends when they both attended Stanford University.

The two sent out an email the morning of Friday November 27 saying: "We're sorry for the mass email but we wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy Thanksgiving! We also wanted to share that we are engaged! We didn't get married this past summer despite the stories to the contrary, but we are looking toward next summer and hope you all will be there to celebrate with us. Happy Holidays! Chelsea & Marc."

Clinton spokesman Matt McKenna said the couple became engaged before Thanksgiving. He noted that clearly all previous reporting by media outlets about Chelsea having been married over the Summer was obvioiusly incorrect.

I admire the Clintons and especially the way they handled the sex scandal stuff. shows unity and understanding. A goat births a goat. Chelsea, I have no doubt u'll be in control like your mum. She's a great woman. u hooked a cute guy. Nice pair.Your inner beauty is more important than the physical. goodluck!

Good on her and I wish her well, but how about the media cover some more relevant good news in this world like my fellow Marines saving lives in Afghanistan and acting as civil servants to the Afghan people. Priorities in this country are completely out of focus b/c of media spin.

I am not an American but I love America for what it is. I love America for what and who its people are. I love America for its Clinton. Bill Clinton was a role model and a citizen of the world, He was a good leader, loved and respected by all nations. Please America, keep producing Clintons. We need leaders that build not the ones that destroy. Chelsea congratulations, I wish you a happy life and I wish you the best.

Congrats to Chelsea, but is this really worthy of political punch? More like TMZ.

But honestly, no offense to Chelsea, she got a really bad rap and had to go through some awful media attention right during her puberty years. I'd wish that on no one. Good luck to her and her fiancee. He definitely married into an interesting family.

Congratulations to Chelsea, she's turned out to be quite the classy lady.Say what you want about the Clintons, they raised a wonderful daughter.

These comments from the wing nuts are not appropriate, and I will say the comments about Sarah and her family from the other wing nuts are not appropriate either. Grow up folks.

We met Chelsea when she was at the ackward age of junior high school. Chelsea is a lovely person who inherited the smarts of her folks. Best luck to both of them - they don't deserve the comments on this page.

Chelsea is NOT beautiful, but I guess she's american royalty.
Clearly you must prefer the The MILF Palin with the empty head

Figures she'd marry a Goldman Sachs banker. Goldman Sachs basically runs our financial system, Federal Reserve and Treasury, via their alumni in key positions. Party affiliation is irrelevant.

Congrats and all the best wishes to Chelsea and Marc!

Former Pres. Bill Clinton and Secy. Hillary Rodham Clinton must be very proud of their brilliant, talented, classy daughter. They have done a fine job of raising her in the fishbowl of politics.

The Dems were very foolish to betray the best political team in Democratic political history for Obama who was and remains unqualified to be President of the U.S.

Let's rectify the mistake in 2012 by electing Hillary 2012! New leadership is needed in the House, Senate, DNC and Presidency.

Hillary 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Good for them to take the time to get to know each other. I expect this marriage will last.

I must admit I hope she keeps her maiden name though. Mezvinsky is too hard to spell.

Congratulations to Chelsea and Marc. May you have an incredible marriage and make Bill and Hillary proud grandparents in the future.

What exciting news.

It's too bad that one of their friends clearly forwarded Chelsea and Marc's email announcing their engagement to a reporter. It must be such an odd feeling to never know who you can trust.

Congratulations Chelsea and Marc!!

Congratulations to the couple. Chelsea has always been an excellent role model. I've always liked her, even if I am a Republican. I wish them a lifetime of happiness.

Congratulations.

Humm.......................... Wow how nice. I see it took a couple of facial surgies and and lots updos to get that chic to look NICE. What a dog. Let's see if she takes on the role in this unity of love like her mother did. I see her wearing the pants and slapping this poor dude around.

Posted by: Heidi | Nov 30, 2009 9:53:23 AM

Congrats to Chelsea and Marc. Hopefully, they will find happiness in the private sector so they won't be seduced by the power of politics like everyone else on both sides of their families.
