November 08, 2009 1:11 PM

Abc_karen_travers_090309_mn ABC News' Karen Travers reports:

Former President George W. Bush and Mrs. Laura Bush made a private visit to Darnall Army Medical Center at Ft. Hood Friday evening.

The former president and first lady visited with soldiers wounded in the incident on Thursday, as well as some of their family members.

"They also had a chance to thank Lieutenant General Cone, Colonel Braverman, and many of the hospital staff for the amazing care they are providing," Bush spokesman David Sherzer told ABC News.

The Bushes' Crawford ranch is not far from Ft. Hood.

The difference betwee CLASS and CRASS and I think you know who is who.

The Presidency shoes are very big and whoever is elected MUST fill those shoes in a hurry. Bush filled them on 9/11. Obama still is struggling to fill them and for what he has showed so far it will take him some time. He is not decisive enough. He looks as if he is not sure enough or does not know what he want to do.

As much as I did not like GWBs policies I do like the man. It's not about who is a "better" liked president. It's about how they will serve the USA. Both need our support. GWB I believe did what he thought was the right thing to do during his time in history as well as BO is doing what he thinks is the correct thing to do. Can you really honestly think that either one doesn't want good things for the USA ? Get serious... But I do like GW more and more now that he is out of office, and I believe that he is true in his wishes for these soldiers. A class act ... If you were to ask me what i thought of him 6 years ago i wouldn't have said such kind words. But now I truly believe that he did what he thought was right. I can respect that.

Thank you President and Mrs. Bush. Your visit I'm sure met alot to the wounded soldiers at Ft. Hood.

There is no comparison between Obama and Bush. Bush is a class act. Obama is still in training. I shudder to think of Obama as Commander-in-chief...he is absolutely not qualified even though he was voted into the role.

Many of your political opinions & comments are demeaning & devalue the honor of the memories of the fallen at Ft. Hood.

Barack Obama is the rightfully elected President of the United States. He gave a wonderful speech today at the memorial and I believe he was every bit as sincere as G. W. Bush or John McCain would have been.

No one said we had to agree on issues, but we need unity in this country not Coke vs. Pepsi politics.

Sincerely,

A retired Navy Chief.

I wasn't the least bit surprised when President Bush and his wife went to visit the soldiers. He has always loved America and what it stands for. He made no excuses to the rest of the world for the way we do things. He always protected our great country.
Also, let me say that I wasn't the least bit surprised that President Obama DIDN'T!

There is no choice. I own the injuries the jerk in the motorhome left me with when he struck my motorcycle. He remains a jerk. He'd remain a jerk if he visited injured motorycle victims convenietly near his home for the rest of his miserable life.

Obama only cares about his Marxist "social justice" agenda. I'm starting to see Obama's insincerity

What is it with anti-Bush people that they need tell stories which may or may not true over and over again to prove that a Harvard MBA is a fool. Bush is bright and so is Harvard JD Obama. The only difference is that Obama knows how to read a speech and does not react from his gut.

Your guy is VERY cool or cold & Bush is not. Live with it & let talk about issues.

tierra, only if the media is allowed to capture everything! Please tell me, since you seem to know everyting about this president, why is that?

"I think you should be reminded of George launching a huge wad of spit onto the lawn in front of the cameras. Real classy."

BO smokes. Real classy.

Oh that evil Obama - trying to help people in the military again establishing a Council on Veterans Employment that will be chaired by the Secretaries of Labor and Veterans Affairs AND a Veterans Employment Program office within most Federal agencies. Next thing you know, he'll be going to Ft. Hood, or overseeing the arrival of the coffins of fallen soldiers, or visiting the wounded at Walter Reed, or making it easier for the veterans department to lay out their budget a year ahead and organize better, or attempting to better fund health care for military veterans. I tell you the man is evil.

tierra, nobody has to demean the president, his actions or lack of, do a great job all on their own. How in the world do you look at yourself in the mirror after supporting this man on EVERYTHING he does/does not do? He is wrong to have taken the cameras with him when he recieved the bodies of the fallen and he is wrong waiting until the world is watching to go see the soliders at Fort Hood. He does nothing unless there is a photo opportunity available. Shame on him and you for defending him

Wao the reporter had to put the finishing touches about Bush visited becasue he lives closer than Obama wao

Posted by: Navy Vet | Nov 9, 2009 3:49:59 PM

I am a supporter of Obama, and I am sure most of my fellows will think I'm being traitorous by saying this, but I felt sick to my stomach listening to him talk... and then when I found out Bush went (not so) secretly to fort hood and the presdient wasn't going to go until the memorial service, I felt sicker.
I hope he can see how this looks even to some of us who really like and support him. It seems like he doesn't care very much about the soldiers, and I'm sure that's NOT true, but it is how it SEEMS that really counts when you're the president!
Here is what I think- he does need to change how he reacts to some things. He needs to quit bickering with fox news, it makes him seem silly and on their level. He needs to show some more compassion for those soldiers and their families, so the other side can see his humanness and maybe get a chance to like him more. And I wish he'd quit talking about the "mop" stuff too, and move on. he has shown himself in the past to be so inspirational and eloquent, he was such an awesome potential leader, ready to move on and change the world... I wish we'd see some more of that, I really do. And go ahead and blast me for it. I'm just saying how I really feel. I wish Hillary had won. Otherwise the right will get more and more support.

I guess anyone that doesn't agree with your messiah

Same old cheap shots and name calling - the right wing using the term 'messiah' (repeatedly) in an attempt to demean the President and the people who support him.

One of the continuing attempts to demean and demonize - right wing fear and smear tactics.

Cheap and obvious.
