Interview with the President: NY-23 Special Election is “Important Signal” for Democrats

Obama said the main message he took from last week’s election results – with Republicans winning gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia – was that Americans are “nervous, and they’re worried and they’re anxious.”
“I don't think there's any denying the fact that people are worried out there,” he said in an interview with ABC’s Jake Tapper today.
Obama said Democrat Bill Owens victory in the special election in New York’s 23rd congressional district, the one bright spot for the president’s party last Tuesday, “sent an important signal.”
“Bill Owens, the Democrat in a traditionally Republican district, a district that had been Republican for 100 years, did not shy away from saying he supported health insurance reform, that he supported the Recovery Act and the progress that we have made there and ended up winning,” Obama said.

The part about Owens “supporting health care reform is correct, but, and I say again, but Owens never supported openly any public option, none, nada, nil, zero.”
I know. I competed with him and others for the DEM nomination. He basically was flat out against any public option, but he never said so in precise terms; always dancing around it when asked directly. When he got to the House, he probably was told, “Get on board how and vote “Yes” and if you do not, think about the millions we gave you to win this seat.” Or words to that affect.
That's my take and I'm pretty sure I am correct. In the end, it is always the money, isn't it? — Dan Francis, Watertown, NY

I understand spin, but when they start buying their own spin, that's when it gets worrisome. Our President and his spin doctors seem to forget that Owens won by a margin of 4 percent. Dede took 5.5 percent away from Hoffman. Had it not been a three way election, chances are it would have remained a Republican district. The administration sees this as a referendum, but not the landslide in VA and the win in NJ? Crepe paper holds up better than that kind of logic.

Mr President as a lifelong Democrat I say this to you: YOU are a fraud and a liar and a divider and a dangerous egotistical radical marxist.
And I make this promise: I will work tirelessly and give every last dime I can afford to the other party to defeat your Democrats (YOUR guys, sadly not mine any longer) in the coming elections and bring back moderation and balance to our honorable Constitutional Republic.
