Obama: Fort Hood Shootings Show 'Worst Of Human Nature' but also 'Best of America'
November 07, 2009 9:49 AM
ABC News' Sunlen Miller reports:
Calling Thursday’s shooting in Fort Hood, Texas one of the most devastating ever committed on an American military base, President Obama said that while “the worst of human nature was on full display” the “best of America” was also shown that day.
“Even as we saw the worst of human nature on full display, we also saw the best of America,” President Obama said in his weekly address, “We saw soldiers and civilians alike rushing to aid fallen comrades; tearing off bullet-riddled clothes to treat the injured; using blouses as tourniquets; taking down the shooter even as they bore wounds themselves.”
Mr. Obama said that the soldier’s “valor” and “selfless” reaction to the shooting make “all of us proud to be Americans,” as many used tactics learned in the battlefields to help protect their fellow soldiers when an Army psychiatrist walked to the Solider Readiness Processing Center and began shooting, in a place where Mr. Obama said they should feel “the most safe.”
“It is an act of violence that would have been heartbreaking had it occurred anyplace in America. It is a crime that would have horrified us had its victims been Americans of any background. But it’s all the more heartbreaking and all the more despicable because of the place where it occurred and the patriots who were its victims.”
The President, as he did on Friday sought to assure a grieving nation that he is staying on top of the investigation and will be in “close contact” with representatives of the relevant agencies as new information comes in.
“We cannot fully know what leads a man to do such a thing. But what we do know is that our thoughts are with every single one of the men and women who were injured at Ft. Hood. Our thoughts are with all the families who’ve lost a loved one in this national tragedy. And our thoughts are with all the Americans who wear – or who’ve worn – the proud uniform of the United States of America.”
Mr. Obama made a special note that the flags he ordered to fly at half staff from today until Veterans Day honor all Americans who have served, from all races, faiths, and station.
“They are Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus and nonbelievers. They are descendents of immigrants and immigrants themselves. They reflect the diversity that makes this America. But what they share is a patriotism like no other.”

I don't recall the Tech shooter yelling"Allahu Ahkbar" before plugging his victims. The Major is not a mentally troubled individual, he is a soldier of Allah who is now being lauded by thousands of Muslim fudamentalists of a similar stripe. There is little evidence of previous mental instability; there is loads of evidence for treason.

Terrorist attack? Did anyone call the shootings at Virginia Tech a terrorist attack? I don't think it was characterized as such. Since we as a people don't seem to characterize the Virginia Tech massacre which was perpetrated by an obviously mentally troubled Asian student in Virginia as an Asian terrorist attack, or the Columbine shootings as a teenage-outsider terrorist attack, why should a terrible event perpetrated by an obviously mentally troubled Muslim military officer be labeled a Muslim terrorist attack?

Maybe if Janet Napolitano hadn't been spending so much time scrutinizing "tea-bag people" she could have connected the dots on the worst domestic terrorism since 9/11.

Why the heck would it matter if Obama visited immediately or not? Is he going to sweep the crime scene for evidence or something??? He's a POLITICIAN, and his presence immediately is wholly unnecessary, people. He's not going to alter events of the past, and furthermore he'd probably have the media there and get in the damn way. He's ALSO not a priest or God, FYI, (although for some reason that's how America has been treating the presidency for the past decade)so he doesn't need to rush there to read any last rites. He's gonna do the little song and dance and lay the wreath on TUESDAY. There is no rush, is there? Most funerals won't be until then anyway. Jeez.

The President's presentation of the shooting at Ft. Hood was an embarrassment.

The fact is that Barack Obama doesn't care enough to go to Ft. Hood.

Nonsense, you have no idea . ..

The fact is that Barack Obama doesn't care enough to go to Ft. Hood.It isn't under attack. By Tuesday some of the wounded may be dead.Actions speak louder than words. Why will he not go now? Why will he not go tomorrow?

I have not yet heard the President call this a terrorists attack, which it was. The worst since 9/11. Tell the truth for once!!

Obama at Dover was one more incredible photo op for him.

President Obama was directly involved in retrieving and escorting 18 coffins with individual honors for each. He was there from just after midnight until just before dawn. Only one of these retrievals was filmed. The other 17 Obama did with the troops alone.
Call it what you will but you're really only revealing your own poverty of spirit, not the President's.

Tierra -- He'll be there b/c he is everywhere.....with cameras, lights, etc.
I was disappointed that the president had to continue with the "written speech". He showed no real sensitivity as he made the shootings a "second item."
Apparently, other dignitaries have quietly visited the wounded and families without any fanfare.
For a suggestion of strength, he should leave Michelle home on this one.
Obama at Dover was one more incredible photo op for him. He is shameless.
Note: He has personally "jumped to conclusions" in the past, with the professor and the policeman.
Good that he is more reticent in making statements that are not true.

When is the last time you ever heard of the Commander in Chief being restricted from an American military base?
_____________________________________
When the base is under attack . . . again, the answer is remarkably obvious given any thought at all.
President Obama visited wounded soldiers on Friday. He attended at the arrival of soldiers fallen in duty just last week. He and the First Lady will be in Ft. Hood on tuesday.

George Bush is under Secret Service protection, but he went last night. Sorry, that dog don't hunt. When is the last time you ever heard of the Commander in Chief being restricted from an American military base? How about NEVER. You have never been in the military obviously.Obama didn't go because he chose not to go.Accept it.

I must have missed the part where somebody asked the President to come immediately to Fort Hood, and he refused. Had he gone immediately he'd have gotten big time in the way.

Mr. Obama declined to go to Ft. Hood,
___________________________________
Pssst . . . he's President Obama.
He has not declined to go to Ft. Hood. He will be there Tuesday with the First Lady.
Do you think it's at all possible the Military or the Secret Service restricted him from going to the base immediately?
I suppose you would never have considered this - you'd prefer just to condemn him. And you know the inner workings surrounding a President so well.
Your own personal political agenda is showing again.

This attack is not a joke. It is not something of which to make light. No matter what the erstwhile President or the media would have you think. It also is something that should not be hidden by playing up whatever other pyscho shoots up his former colleagues or office building (or any other crimes that will soon fill your tv screens.) It isn't stress. It isn't gun availability. It isn't almost all other excuses- and that what they offer. It is was it was. As this guy apparently talked about, posted, and did. And it was sad, tragic, and- possibly- avoidable by having measures but for political correctness, moral waivers, etc. But to claim this Islamic psycho was "stressed" by PTSD is to demean the real issue of PTSD

From Webster's New World College Dictionary 4th edition page 1205:"refuse 2 to decline to do,give,or grant..."Mr. Obama declined to go to Ft. Hood, ergo he refused to go.That isn't spin-that is an appropriate way to describe his actions.Perhaps tierra can find another dictionary. The bottom line is that Mr. Obama has not gone to Ft. Hood.As far as visiting wounded troops yesterday-what does that have to do with the events in Texas? Are you implying that Mr. Obama already spends enough time with wounded servicemen? I thought that the trip to WRAMC was Mr. Obama's first visit to that facility since taking office.By Tuesday some of the wounded may well be dead. What does that say about Mr. Obama's concern?

Obama says don't jump to conclusions on shooting
"We don't know all the answers yet. And I would caution against jumping to conclusions until we have all the facts," Obama said in a Rose Garden statement..."

You would prefer the President encouraged everybody to jump to conclusions on this tragedy in Ft. Hood?

GLENN BECK WAS RIGHT ABOUT BARACK OBAMA!!
Obama on Major, Born in Virginia, sent to medical school by the U.S. Army, the psychiatrist was disciplined for proselytizing to his patients about Islam. Asked his nationality, he didn't identify himself as an American but as a Palestinian. He spoke approvingly of the shooting death of a Little Rock Army recruiter in June and reportedly was heard saying "maybe people should strap bombs on themselves and go to Times Square."He screamed allah akbar before he mowed down scores of patriotic Americans and gave away Qurans with his business card before his act of jihad. He gave his landlord two weeks notice ............
Obama says don't jump to conclusions on shooting
"We don't know all the answers yet. And I would caution against jumping to conclusions until we have all the facts," Obama said in a Rose Garden statement..."
Obama's rush to judgement of a white cop doing his job:
"But I think it's fair to say, No. 1, any of us would be pretty angry; No. 2, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home; and, No. 3 ... that there's a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately."
The incident, Obama said, shows "how race remains a factor in this society."

Just seen now that the massacre at Fort Hood was prophesied by Prophet TB Joshua of The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations, Nigeria LIVE on TV during one of his recent Sunday services. This is what he said:
“What’s happening here is a blessing to the nation and to the whole world. Like today, I have some message. This is not even Nigeria but a super nation. The name, ‘Fort’. We should pray for that name. It may be the name of a big company in the whole world but it’s a name. Pray for this name. It’s a parable because I’m seeing a strange person carrying something. But I said, “No, God, please”. We are praying for the whole world here and we keep praying for the whole world”.

How is it insulting to point out that the Commander in Chief refused to visit his wounded troops at Ft. Hood?
____________________________________
President Obama did not REFUSE to visit the troops at Ft. Hood - plain and simple. That's your spin - he 'refused'.
President Obama and the First Lady will be in Ft. Hood on Tuesday.
You seem to omit President Obama visited wounded troops yesterday. Why do you cherry pick information to suit your personal political agenda? Why not be up front with the real facts?
I think we know the answer to that . . .
