The Presidential Planner

From Sunlen Miller:
President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will attend the memorial service for those killed in Thursday’s shootings at Fort Hood.
The Obamas will meet with families of the 13 soldiers and civilians killed at III Corps Headquarters in Fort Hood. Afterward the President will speak at the memorial service to the broader Fort Hood community.
In addition the President and the First Lady will also meet with the soldiers wounded in last week’s attack who are recovering at Darnall Army Medical Center. 43 people were injured in the attack, according the Fort Hood public affairs office.
Mr. Obama’s attendance at the memorial service today has uprooted his schedule a bit. A war strategy meeting on Afghanistan and Pakistan has been rescheduled for Wednesday and the President’s departure for a week in Asia has been delayed by 48 hours. The President will leave now for his trip abroad on Thursday.
The White House says the President wanted the memorial to be planned around the families of those who lost loved ones, and not his own schedule.

What a sad time for those families. Death of a loved one is always a hard thing, but senseless killings like these make it that much worse. Many of those killed were so young, their adult lives just begun.
My sincerest prayers go to the families and the surviving injured.
Byrd Flyer, over 1300 people died due to Katrina and Bush not only didn't arrive there quickly, but many of those deaths were directly due to the fact he put an obviously incompetent person in charge of the government's response to national emergencies.(good old Brownie's most important job previously was running horse shows... I kid you not) So don't give him too much credit for rushing to Ft. Hood when he now doesn't have a job.
And honestly, would we still have troops in Afghanistan if we hadn't needlessly invaded Iraq? Bush dropped the ball years ago on dealing with the Taliban and our troops are still paying the price. Former President Bush didn't show respect or concern for the military when he put them in harm's way in Iraq, sent them there in a rush, ill-equipped, and then had the nerve to not support raises for the troops or even keeping those in Iraq on higher combat pay rates once he declared 'mission accomplished'. It is almost like you've ignored what has happened in his eight years in office.

He's using the Ft. Hood shootings as an excuse for delaying an Afghanistan decision even longer than he already has? What a pathetic pretender. He's no commander in chief - as the men and women of Ft. Hood are well aware.

It will be interesting to see if Obama will refer to the shooter as a terrorist or an extreme radical Muslim. I'm sure he will not want to offend the Major or his friends. He doesn't give a hoot about the families. If he did, he would have gone there immediately. His purpose for going there is to NOT be upstaged by President Bush. Thank you President Bush for showing respect and concern for the Military.
