White House Heralds Iraq Election Law
November 08, 2009 5:59 PM
In addition to heralding the passage of the Democrats' health care reform Saturday night, President Obama today also praised exercises in democracy thousands of miles away in Iraq.
Calling it a "significant breakthrough," President Obama praised the vote by Iraq's Council of Representatives allowing for parliamentary elections in January 2010 calling it "an important milestone as the Iraqi people continue to take responsibility for their future."
The president cast the decision as paving the way for the withdrawal of US troops, saying the US government looks "forward to Iraqi elections early next year" and that the "agreement advances the political progress that can bring lasting peace and unity to Iraq, and allow for the orderly and responsible transition of American combat troops out of Iraq by next September."
The president congratulated Iraq's leaders for the agreement, saying their "flexibility and commitment to their country sends an important signal to the world about Iraq's democracy and national unity." He said that while in recent days "we've seen that there are still those who would kill innocent men, women and children to deny the Iraqi people the future they deserve," the agreement today "is another reminder that these enemies of the Iraqi people will fail.
In a statement, Vice President Biden applauded both Iraqi leaders and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq "for its important role in providing technical advice. These elections will be a critical step forward in advancing national unity and forming an inclusive government. Our commitment and friendship to Iraq remain strong."

The killer of our troops is going to allow more kids to die without help.

While the white house is haralding the kids in Afghanistan are dying. Obama knows that if it continues to sit the American people will have less to say. The killer of our troops is going to allow more kids to die without help.

Thank you W for keeping our homeland from being attacked again after 9/11 for almost 8 years. And thank you Laura for being such a classy lady. And for your two beautiful daughters for growing up to be two beautiful women.
Its ok to have been asleep on the while for 9 months up till then resulting in 3000+ Americans being killed right on our soil. And the additional 000s+ killed in Iraq for a war that is now completely discredited based on its stated motives. We'll forgive u cos you are a Repub and it must be the fault of someone else or your predecessor. Responsibility and being held to providing solutions in 9 months should only be for black presidents. Yes hold their feet to the fire. Why is unemployment higher than 8% - doesnt matter if its trajectory was going that way and the economy was in shambles.

And think of all the tens of thousands of Frenchmen who were killed, and tens of thousands more maimed, in throwing off the yoke of the Nazis.

And think of all the tens of thousands of Frenchmen who were killed, and tens of thousands more maimed, in throwing off the yoke of the Nazis. For that, the world of free people acknowledged their debt of gratitude to de Gaulle, Churchill and FDR.
The ungracious Obama, however, is insufficently honorable to acknowledge that George W. Bush s responsible for democracy in Iraq. But he knows that it is true, and that history will record it.

So, I'll say it for you, Barry: Thank you, President Bush.

Yes, and the tens of thousands of Iraqis killed, and the tens of thousand more maimed and wounded because of Bush's neo-con agenda - and the thousands of Americans in the same situation - GRATEFULLY thank Mr. Bush for his rash and egotistical agenda.

You left out the part where Obama said, "And I thank my predecessor for his insight and courage to stand strong in Iraq during those dark days when I was proclaiming the need to leave them to an inevitable bloodbath and genocide. Without his perserverance, we couldn't celebrate this triumph today."
Oh, wait. It takes a statesman to speak such truth, thin-skinned punks aren't big enough.
So, I'll say it for you, Barry: Thank you, President Bush.
