White House Calls Helen Thomas' Remarks 'Offensive and Reprehensible'

From Sunlen Miller:

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs today called Helen Thomas' remarks, "offensive and reprehensible."

“I think she should and has apologized,” Gibbs said at the daily briefing today, “Obviously those remarks are -- do not reflect certainly the opinion of most people in here, and certainly not of the administration.”

Thomas, a veteran White House reporter, last week said that Israelis should “get the hell out of Palestine” and “go home” to Germany and Poland.

Thomas has apologized for her controversial remarks, saying on Friday that she “deeply reforests” her comments. Former Bush Press Secretary Ari Fleischer last week called for Hearst news service to fire Thomas.

Gibbs noted that he has not directly spoken with President Obama about Thomas’ remarks yet. Helen Thomas’ front row briefing room seat was empty today, as she did not show up for the daily briefing.
