Obama Cheers On U.S. Women’s Soccer Team

ABC News' Tahman Bradley Reports:

President Obama plans to cheer on the U.S. women's soccer team when it faces Japan at the Women's World Cup Final today in Frankfurt, Germany.

Emerging from church services this morning at St. John's Episcopal Church, the president was asked if he would watch the World Cup match.

"Absolutely. Go USA!" he said.

Earlier in the day, the president’s Twitter account, @Barack Obama, tweeted "To the women of our national soccer team: Sorry I can't be there to see you play, but I'll be cheering you on from here. Let's go. –BO."

The top-ranked U.S. team's dramatic come-from-behind victory over Brazil last week thrilled many in official Washington. Jill Biden, Chelsea Clinton, and the U.S. ambassador to Germany will be in Frankfurt as part of a U.S. delegation attending the match.

The U.S. women's team is playing for its third World Cup title.

Coverage begins at 2:00 pm ET on ESPN and ESPN 3.com.
