The White House announced today that President Obama and the First Lady will commemorate the 10 th anniversary of the September 11 th terrorist attacks by participating in events at the three locations where American lives were lost.
“The president and Mrs. Obama will join with the rest of the American people in marking the 10th anniversary of a day that we will never forget,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters today.
The president and First Lady will attend events at Ground Zero in New York City, in Shanksville, Pa., and at the Pentagon in Northern Virginia.
“Throughout the day, he will pay tribute to those we lost, honor the Americans who responded on that day and who served in harm's way over the last decade. He will underscore the strength, resilience and unity of the American people,” Carney said.
On September 10 th, Vice President Joe Biden will attend the dedication of the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville.
