ABC's Catrin Jones reports: During a media availability at Georgetown University, Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) was asked whether it was inappropriate for a reporter to ask Sen. George Allen (R-VA) about his mother's religious background.

Sen. Obama said that such a question would be an appropriate one for a reporter to ask him because Sen. Obama has urged Democrats to talk more about religion. But the Illinois lawmaker did not answer whether it was appropriate for Sen. Allen to be asked that question, saying that he hasn't followed Sen. Allen's campaign closely enough to have an opinion.

Sen. Obama was at Georgetown University to deliver an energy policy speech sponsored by MoveOn.org. Later today, he is scheduled to campaign with former Navy Secretary Jim Webb, Allen's Democratic foe, in Alexandria, VA.

This is a very funny way to get attention on a national story that was first appeared in the Forward, the national Jewish weekly newspaper.
