ABC's Teddy Davis reports: Tim Mahoney, the Democrat hoping to succeed former Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) as the congressman from Florida's 16th congressional district, is launching an ad in which he says: "Every generation has the responsibility of turning over to the next generation an America that’s more moral and one that offers greater opportunity to their children."

The ad features Bob Graham, the former Democratic senator and governor of Florida who briefly sought the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination.

Graham calls Mahoney a "common sense businessman who believes in faith, family, and personal responsibility."

I lived in Florida for 10 years (1994-2004) and heard references about Foley's homosexuality. It did not come from main stream media, it came from weekly dailies (Times, City Life, etc.) and they goated him to "out" himself. He never did. He denied reports that he was gay. The main stream media refused to touch him (Sun-Sentinel, etc.). So a lot of people in Florida knew about his "outings". I'm sure it came as no surprise to Floridians. And it especially came as no surprise to Republicans, because they also knew! What does alcoholism have to do with child molestation? Every time someone gets caught doing something wrong, it is blamed on alcohol. Phooey! He's just a pervert! He should be brought to trial just like any other pedophile.

When is the FBI going to pick up his computers? - chances are he has done more.

Foley's being or not being gay has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that he is a pedophile!!!!! When am I going to hear someone somewhere expressing concern for the young men and their families?

If Floridian's have known all along that Foley was a pervert then why did they keep re-electing him? and why was he so far ahead in the polls? Humm...As far as the drinking goes, I think he just started drinking when his cover was blown.

I'd just like to add to the previous post by gmercado. If he is gay, his remaining in the gay-bashing Republican party shows a lot of denial and possibly self-hate.

Totally separate from his possibly being gay is the pedophilia which occurs in all sexual orientations. For this, the alcohol excuse is totally phony as is the new excuse of being "sexually abused by a clergyman as a teenager." Just how much smoke do they think they can blow up the public's you know what?

Foley is the typical pontificating moralizer -- they all have something they are hiding just like the moralizing preacher Jimmy Swaggart and his prostitues in hotel rooms. Those who feel they must preach morals to others are doing so to cover some internal confict of their own -- often on the same subject on which they preach.

In response to a few posts ago...If Floridian's have known all along that Foley was a pervert then why did they keep re-electing him? and why was he so far ahead in the polls? Humm...As far as the drinking goes, I think he just started drinking when his cover was blown....

The reason why Foley kept getting re-elected despite his well known sexual proclivities is because the bulk of Republicans don't really care about morality or sexual issues. They simply spout these cliche's and platitudes about morals in order to motivate the 50 percent religious-nut portion of their party. The religious-nut portion of the party will fall in line behind literally ANYONE with an "R" after their name who tells them what they want to hear, truth be damned.

It is/was obvious Foley is a gay man. Everyone in the leadership knew, everyone in Washington probably knew for that matter. Republicans did nothing about it because the only thing they truly care about is money, and Foley parroted Bush's B.S. about taxes etc. like a broken record. They (the constituents of his district) weren't going to risk losing the seat just to do something pesky like be consistent with their representative's rhetoric.

That's not how Republicans operate, which is why their party is controlled by religious fanatics (the stupid) and corporations (the greedy). Reasonable people do not follow such nonsense, and for their leaders to speak the truth about who they are and what they're about would be political suicide. They must lie and approximate the truth and inflame emotions to win.

If only the Democrats were more saavy, we might actually have a country to be proud of again.

I guess Foley now redefines the term GOP from Grand Old Party to Grand Old Pedophile. The emails are outrageous, but more so is the conduct of Hastert, Reynolds and Shimkus, who allowed a 100k donation to turn them into the 3 monkeys... hear no evil, speak no evil and see no evil..
