Bush 41 Warns of 'Ghastly' Future Under 'Wild Democrats'

October 05, 2006 5:22 PM

ABC contributor Michelle Dubert reports: While campaigning for Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) in the Philadelphia suburbs today, former President George H.W. Bush warned of a "ghastly" future for his son and other Americans if "wild Democrats" take over Congress.

"I would hate to think what Arlen's life would be like, what Rick's life would be like, and what my son's life would be like if we lose control of the Congress," said former President George Bush in a reference to Pennsylvania's two Republican Senators. "If we have some of these wild Democrats in charge of these committees, it will be a ghastly thing for our country."

"They'd be pushing through all kinds of crazy legislation," he added, "And they would be issuing the subpoenas, dragging people in just to be getting headlines."

The former President made his remarks at a Santorum fundraiser at a private residence in Gladwyne, PA that was also attended by Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA).

Thank God the Republicans would never push through any crazy legislation (torture, minimum wage linked to estate tax) nor do anything crazy like impeach someone over an affair! Compared to what Bush 43 has done, Clinton was a saint. I say bring on the Dems. I like their crazy ways better than what we have now.

Posted by: Kim Wixon | Oct 5, 2006 5:36:48 PM

Oh no, not the crazy Democrats! What will they do invade a country under false pretences? Oh, sorry that's already been done by Bush 41's son.

Posted by: ohbother | Oct 5, 2006 5:43:35 PM

Oh. My. God. All Democratic Congressmen will be looking for is if someone has broken the law. If the law has not been broken, no problem. What is this man talking about? I suppose he thinks defending the Constitution is wild and crazy, too.

*sob* It warms my cold, metallic heart to know that George Sr. cares so much about another human being.

It really does *sob*.

POOR GEORGE...he can't help it...he was born with a silver foot in his mouth.

Wasn't that jerk in PA today to accept an award with DEMOCRAT BILL CLINTON?

Posted by: BenMurphyNYC | Oct 5, 2006 9:34:56 PM

Yeah, those wildly Democrats might prosecute CHILD MOLESTING REPUBLICANS and that would be a horrible future. I'm sorry but the Dems would be a lot better than the "Brokeback Congress". These Elephants belong in a zoo not on capitol hill.

Posted by: Barry | Oct 5, 2006 9:39:41 PM

Lions and tigers and Democrats, OH MY! Nothing like spewing fear, uncertainty, and doubt on a bunch of brainless campaign contributors. I kind of like "wild"! It sure beats "liberals"! Bring it!

Posted by: just me | Oct 5, 2006 10:26:42 PM

GEORGE IS RIGHT. ANY PARTY WHO CARES MORE ABOUT HUMILIATING A TERRORIST,THAN THEY DO ABOUT REAL TORTURE WHEN THESE ISLAMO FASCISTS CUT SOMEONES HEAD OFF WHILE THEY ARE STILL ALIVE, SHOULD NEVER EVER BE IN A POSITION OF POWER!

Posted by: JOHN SCHUMANN | Oct 5, 2006 11:22:43 PM

Bush Sr is worried that when the Dems get in, they will prosecute all the crimes that have taken place in the last 6 year! If the Rep were to stay, they will continue with the corruption, lies & destruction of America.

peace :-)
impeach this jerk NOW!
and bring the troops home

Posted by: kath | Oct 5, 2006 11:33:07 PM

Amen
I bet you all more is on the way. It is just the beginning. These elephants will lay on their backs soon. I see them trying to clean thier closets.

I used to have respect for old bush but that is long gone after his stupid remarks.

Posted by: bjorn | Oct 5, 2006 11:49:10 PM

Jeezo Pete, sometimes I feel like I'm living in a comic book. GHWB is not a stupid man, his remarks betray an almost unbelievable level of cynicism about how stupid he must think the general population is. Talk about detatched from reality.

Posted by: matthew giffin | Oct 5, 2006 11:53:32 PM

Funny that old man Bush is so concerned. No, the American public shouldn't elect the Democratic party, a party that would start turning back the country to what it has so proudly stands, freedom and democracy. What a wild and crazy thought, one for which the country was founded on. It is time that the Bushes and there ilk learned, that no matter their sense of privilege, the Constitution is for all, and not just a select few.
All Americans get out and vote in November, remember to de-diabola the voting machines. Nathan Hale, a man without a democratically elected President.

Posted by: Nathan Hale | Oct 6, 2006 12:35:36 AM

:o) God bless idiots like George H.W. Bush and his sons. What goes around comes around. It's all karma, George. Get used to it. Your son will be impeached and tried for crimes against humanity. What sucks the most is that my cousin was killed for your god damned oil fields, the killing fields of the 21st century. I hope they all rot in hell.

Posted by: human being | Oct 6, 2006 1:00:15 AM

Lets see. His son has declared "God talks to me" and "God speaks through me", and "God put me in the presidency"..and he demands to have the power to torture other human beings. "Wild Democrats"?..How about "Bush Family LUNATICS".

Posted by: Don | Oct 6, 2006 5:03:30 AM

If the dems do win the house we will see more of the same....nothing. "Wild" refers to many of the dems desires to fuel their ability to social engineer our society since we are stupid by repealing tax relief. More money for their pet projects less money for us to pay our bills. "Wild" also describes many dems desire to treat terroist like US citizens. Imagine if you will how the ACLU would conduct a war on Islamic facists. Makes you fill good...right?

Posted by: John White | Oct 6, 2006 5:43:55 AM

Wild Democrats will right the wrongs this guys son done to America....

Posted by: Craig | Oct 6, 2006 6:42:18 AM

War, violating the Geneva Convention, prostitution of the poor on health care, tax breaks for the extremely wealthy, stealing money from Native Americans, and now pedophilia in action......Crazy sounds good when compared to immorality....

Posted by: Phil | Oct 6, 2006 7:10:45 AM

When the Democrats win the house and/or the Senate, this administration will finally be held to account. There has been no oversight of the Executive branch under the Republicans.

The Executive knows what they have done and the American people do not. That is why they will do and say just about anything to hold power.

Our very constitution and democracy itself hangs in the balance.

United the Democrats stand; divided the Republicans fall. Let us hope that this is so.

Posted by: Carollt | Oct 6, 2006 7:23:09 AM

Can they think of ANYTHING new to say or do? If they don't lose BOTH houses of congress I will have lost MUCH faith in our democratic process.

Posted by: TB | Oct 6, 2006 7:50:14 AM

What could be more wild than appointing an internet child molester to the head of the committee to protect children from online predators? Maybe appointing former coal/oil lobbyists to our energy committies. Or former logging lobbyists to our healthy forest committies. Or the most non-diplomatic person who has such disdain for and agression towards the UN, to be head of the UN! Or a guy who works with horses to be head of FEMA! Honestly. It's not even as if they make unwise choices, they always seem to pick the exact opposite person than what they should be looking for. Wild indeed.

Posted by: H | Oct 6, 2006 8:03:08 AM

No doubt Herbie is proud of his Party, the one that gives new meaning to the phrase/slogan No Child Left Behind. Or is it, No Child's Behind is Left.

Posted by: ta | Oct 6, 2006 9:01:16 AM

Republicans running scared. This is trash talk from Bush41. I could think of ALOT worse fates than having the GOP lose the House and Senate in November. (And I am a Republican who is so ashamed of this administration that I will vote for Democrats this fall!) We need a fresh start to get some things accomplished!

Posted by: ET60 | Oct 6, 2006 9:11:38 AM

Bring on the balance. Absolute power corrupts. We saw it with Democrats before and the Republican party has taken it to a whole new level. I don't trust either party.

Posted by: Rob Harris | Oct 6, 2006 9:25:23 AM

This man is better off fishing off Kennebunkport than offering his archaic opinions on the election. I certainly thought he WAS a stateman, but his latest defense of his indefensible son leaves me wondering whether or not 41 has been in too many fishing tournaments in Maine!

Posted by: Rich | Oct 6, 2006 9:56:51 AM

What on earth is Bush senior talking about? I used to like him, but good grief, he's now as nuts as his son is! Todays article on the border fence is a good example of George Bush's abuse of power and complete disregard for what Congress passes etc. The Foley debacle also shows how low the Republicans will stoop to retain power in the Congress. Using our youth for their power is as horrible as the Iraq war. Bring the Democrats back so we can get our freedoms and middle class Americans back!!

Posted by: Pat | Oct 6, 2006 10:00:13 AM

The next poster here to use the phrase "islamofaschist" or similar has to buy a round of beer for every reader!

Guys, are you so STUPID that you can't even hide your affiliation while spinnblogging for your party?

You wouldn't last five minutes in Washington, even me, a foreigner, would do better...

Posted by: Martin from Germany | Oct 6, 2006 10:01:44 AM

What's really sad is that 41 doesn't care about what's good for the country, only that it will be bad for Republicans and especially little Dubya.

BRING IT ON!!!

As much as I hate W, I am willing to wager that if he was free from influence of his dad's cronies he would be a much better President. Cheny, Rice, Rumsfeld are all dicks that have screwed our country up by operating a 2nd & 3rd term for Herbie Bush. I have lost all respect I had for HW Bush. I love on Larry King when King asked if he planned on reading Woodward's new book and Bush was like NO, it's critical of my son. Well God damm, like it would hurt to read something critical of your screwup son? It's not like tens of thousands are dying while we are draining our Treasury because of his infalability....

Posted by: Andrew Alexander | Oct 6, 2006 10:33:48 AM

Sure George Sr. jests!! God forbide we, the American People who have to live day by day under the rathful watch of George's dictator son, might actually get a Congress that believes in all those crazy things our Founding Fathers believed in...like liberty!!

Oversight is a very scary thing...especially if you have a lot to hide.

Posted by: Ed | Oct 6, 2006 10:48:45 AM

Old man, Bush, is nothing but a child abuser himself. Anyone who has done the research, knows this very well. Child abuse has been going on for decades, in ALL administrations. Nothing new here! They are both as guilty as the day is long. What comes around, goes around. Where are the decent people in this world? Oh, I forgot! Once they are in office, they have sold their souls to, satan.

Posted by: Judy | Oct 6, 2006 11:32:46 AM

As I recall when this administration came into power they were handed a $3 Trillon surplus, W gave that to the rich class as quickly as he could. More recently he and his republican buddies gave big oil billions of dollars in tax breaks while the public was paying over $3.00 a gallon and big oil was reaping (raping) their biggest profits ever recorded by any company. Did you think our country would ever condone, must less, recommend torture, imprisionment without trial, war based on lies, monitoring our telephone calls and reading our emails. No matter how "wild" the democrats get, it can't be any worse than the last 6 years of the thugs we have had running the country.

Posted by: Charlie Ellenburg | Oct 6, 2006 11:33:13 AM

It's unbelievable how some people on here quote directly from the Bush Administration, using terms such as "islamic facists." Why do you have blind support for a criminal? A facist is an extremely conservative person, and "terrorists" are not conservative. Why do you think Adolf Hitler hated Joseph Stalin? Hitler was on the extreme right and Stalin was on the extreme left. Take a history lesson before you start spewing inaccuracies.

If anything, George W. Bush is more of a facist than anyone else. The military commissions act, secret spying, media control and propaganda, illegal detention of suspects, and wars caused by lies and doctored intelligence. This is all just the beginning folks. Vote democrat or you will be very sorry. George Bush is turning this country into a dictatorship. (And the bigger criminal, George HW Bush, is now standing up for his son because he knows what he and his murderous republicans are about to lose.)

Posted by: Brian | Oct 6, 2006 12:13:56 PM

Oh, gee whiz.... it would be terrrrible to have an OPPOSITION! We aren't used to that, we are poor little whining republicans always under the spiked boot of vociferous liberals who are far more powerful than we are, they have all the MONEY behind them. We are just limpwad pious Christians trying to...

Heavens, that man, his brood and his cronies make me sick.

If you want some very interesting reading concerning that heartwarming and humanistic George H.W. bush (the evil Bush) read David Ickes book : Alice in Wonderland and the World Trade Center Disaster. If what he says in the book is true then that would explain alot about how the Bush dynaty operates. If it is not true then I wonder why the Bush family has not used their formidable resources to squash Icke's book. If the truth lies somewhere in between rhen it is still eye-and mind- opening.

PANIC in the ranks.... this is what happens when things go awry. Never mind the country's future, never mind the kids, never mind the concept of values - they need to hang on to the Bush Dynasty.. the truth eventually prevails.

Posted by: LM | Oct 6, 2006 1:10:21 PM

They would do crazy stuff like push Darwin out of schools, kill stem cell research, build bridges to nowhere, hand out no-bid contracts, block a raise in the minimum wage, interfere in end-of-life decisions, place bigotry in the Constitution, go to war under false pretenses and just stir up all kinds of hatreds....no wait - that is what Republican crazies are all about.

Posted by: frankfletcher1 | Oct 6, 2006 1:12:26 PM

I've voted Republican my entire life, but this year, out of protest, I'm voting straight-ticket Democrat. I know this may sound foolish to some of you, but I fear the path our country has been placed upon...I hope it isn't too late. GOD SAVE THE REPUBLIC!

out of Congress and the Senate. Then do the same in 08. Bush and his band of liars should be prosecuted.

Let's see, since 2000:

2 unwinnable wars costing U.S. billions of $$$.

Gas and energy costs at their highest ever.

Toture and domestic spying while preaching about democracy to the world.

Intelligence report indicates anti-Americam sentiment is at all time high and the U.S. may actually be less safe.

Abuse and scandals at all levels including defense/military contractors, Katrina and Irag reconstruction contractors, congressmen and lobbyists.

Potential cover-up of Foley, a pedophilic congressman who preyed on underaged boys via the internet.

So really, are we any safer or better off?

The psychological pathology that the Republicans have exhibited over the past four years makes the narcissistic personality disorder (obsession with control and power, externalization of blame, idealization of self and devaluation of other, denial of realities which threaten a sense of self, impulsive behavior when a threat to self is perceived, etc.) of Richard M. Nixon look like he is Mother Theresa. That pathology in the White House is best known as sociopathy. A disregard for rules other than one's own, inability feel remorse and pathological mendacity. ANYONE WHO WANTS THIS PATHOLOGY RUNNING AMERICA, THEN YOU'RE AS PATHOLOGICAL AS THEY ARE.

Posted by: WW | Oct 6, 2006 5:14:09 PM

The future you predict if the democrats take control of congress is already here under your son and the republican controlled congress except its far worst. Congressmen are being indicted, pleading guilty to crimes and going to jail at an astonishing rate, corruption is off the scales, the president’s decision to attack Iraq has caused horrendous and unnecessary pain and suffering, some 15 or so of our soldiers killed in the last 3 days alone, civil war is looming, over 60% of the Iraqis people think it’s ok to kill Americans, over 3 years now and things are getting worst not better, our military is stretched , the Iraq war is diminishing our ability to keep Afghanistan from imploding as well as our ability to handle natural disasters here at home; and over 500 billion dollars have been spent on this war so far with no end in site, money that could be well spent helping Americans in this country who struggle everyday just to make ends meet. We have to deal with a record amount of foreign debt, we've gone from a surplus to over a trillion dollar deficit - that's over 1000 billion dollars, the president’s arrogance and poor judgment has resulted in us being alienated from most of the world, this at a time when we need more support around the world to fight terrorism; not less. I realize like any loving father you are supporting your son as I would do myself, but thank God, in heaven he is not my son, I would not wish such a burden on any parent. He has really put this country in a very difficult position with Iraq, we went in without a plan – we were not greeted with flowers and candy and we have no plan for getting out – the terrorist in Afghanistan who attack this country are on the rise. We should have never left that country until we got everyone responsible for attacking our country – especially OBL. Mr. President as a Christian, I feel you should convey to your son he should avoid having any more innocent blood on his hands because our Lord Jesus Christ is far more important than politics.

This whole group sounds like the typical moveon.org, bitter, apoplectic bloggers that will ultimately be amazed that the American electorate disagreed with them again after the 2008 election.

Posted by: David | Oct 6, 2006 9:21:14 PM

How ironic the Bush is now worried about partisan Congressional investigations. I don't recall him criticizing the Whitewater witch hunt. What kind of crazy legislation is he worried about? Launcing an illegal war? Approving torture of prisoners? Transforming a record budget surplus into the largest deficit in history? Give me a break!

Posted by: Steve T | Oct 8, 2006 5:54:55 AM

Islamo fascists have their agenda. The Bush Family fascists are their worst nightmare. . . and democracy's worst nightmare. By the time our citizenry figures out that the takeover of our government by the NeoCons plays directly into the hands of the enemy, the United States will have (hopefully) turned a corner. Concentrate our efforts and resources toward energy independence and let the middle east live without our intrusion. Without the need for their oil, will there still be such an emphasis placed on "stabilizing the region"? Or, will our moral judgement have to be focused on regions of the world that really would like our "help"? After this fiasco I think many countries will decide that they are better off being helped by more civilized countries than the US.
