Dem Ad Alleges GOPer Took Money from Leaders Who 'Did Nothing to Stop' Foley
October 06, 2006 12:50 PM
ABC's Teddy Davis reports: Baron Hill, a Democratic candidate for Congress from Indiana, has launched an ad ripping his GOP opponent -- Rep. Mike Sodrel (R-IN) -- for taking $77,000 from Republican leaders "who knew about but did nothing to stop sexual predator Mark Foley," in the words of the ad.
The reference to the "House leadership" includes photos of House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL), House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH), and NRCC Chairman Tom Reynolds (R-NY).
In addition to the Foley-related criticism, the ad also chastises Rep. Sodrel for taking $2,000 from "convicted Congressman Duke Cunningham" and $20,000 from "indicted Majority Leader Tom DeLay."
Hill, the Democrat who launched this ad, is a former member of Congress who lost his seat to Sodrel in 2004 by less than 1,500 votes in one of the closest contests in the country.
The Sodrel-Hill race is one of three highly competitive contests in the Hoosier State where Democrats are hoping to make gains.

Well, at least most Republicans have (appropriately) given Foley donations away. Well, except for the GOP general fund, who's keeping their $500K "to elect Republicans". I'd say in this case the sum is less than the whole of the parts.
