Foley Ethics Cmte.: Speaker Hastert Testifies

ABC News' Tahman Bradley Reports: In a Capitol Hill stunner, Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., entered the chambers of the House Ethics Committee investigating the Mark Foley congressional page scandal at 1:30 p.m. ET.  What Hastert knew and when he knew it is key in revealing whether or not Republicans in leadership acted appropriately in their handling of the matter.  Hastert's testimony comes a day after his chief of staff, Scott Palmer, spoke to the committee for more than six hours.

Earlier today, Rep. Tom Reynolds, R-N.Y., the chairman of National Republican Congressional Committee, testified before the ethics committee. After nearly three hours of testimony, Reynolds said to reporters, "The committee asked me not to share the substance of my testimony." He also encouraged his colleagues with any knowledge relevant to the investigation to come forward.
Reynolds, like Hastert, has drawn sharp criticism from both Democrats and Republicans for his role in the handling of the Foley matter.  At a news conference a few weeks ago, Reynolds said that he had taken knowledge of Foley's questionable e-mail exchange with congressional pages to Hastert's office.

Once again, Republicans testify, and Democrats refuse to testify under oath. It's routine now for Republicans to step down when ANY impropriety is discovered, and they police there own. Democrats (
(Clinton, Barney Frank, Suggs, etc.) are caught red-handed, and NEVER step down. NO principle, no decency, no respect. Democrats are the puke of the planet.

I believe "to testfiy" means to provide evidence for.

What tradidional1 failed to mention, and die-hard republicans seem to be ignoring, is that when republicans testify, they simply lie.

Lies don't provide evidence for anything. Except the character of the testifier.

In this case, we already know Hastert is a liar.

The real crime is that the Good Old Boys Club in Washington knew and allowed Foley's sexual interactions with the underaged pages.
To compound that sin, the Republicans covered up Foley's actions at the Page Academy.
And as hard as this is to believe, the compounded sin of the compound sin is that the Republicans are reluctant to prosecute a Republican pedophile.
Enough of this nonsense by the Old Republican Legislators.
There should be a call of an Independent Prosecutor. And we should all ignore the weak & lame idea of John McCabe of AZ that Republicans can sensor their own members. Oh sure John, you don't want the American people to find out that Foley was only the tip of the Pedophile Iceberg in Washington Callous Club.
We need to send the criminal to jail to convince the American citizens that the Page Academy is safe for our highschool students to reside in.
Fed Up with the Republican Morality.

I believe Speaker Hastert when he says that he does not recall being informed of Foley's behavior at an earlier date. As the individual in charge he must take responsibility and make it clear that he does not plan on running for Speaker (or minority leader) in the next congress. An honorable act at this levle by a leader of the party a week and a half before election day might convince many of those Republicans who are planning on staying at home on November 7, that the party is still the home of those who take honor and responsibility seriously.

It is absurd for some one to assert that speaker Hastert didnot remember any discusion about congressman Foley with any of his staff members. Please save that lie for toddlers. Testifying doesnot mean he didnot cover Foley. Hypocrites!!! Stand up for what is right and stop following your parties blindly.

Don't people relize that to write sexually leading words to a minor point blank is a crime.FBI & local officials arrest the average person and setup stings over the internet for this very crime. Why aren't they in some sort of rehab, they if they don't actualy have physical contact with the minor.Mr.Foley's an elected PUBLIC official who violated the PUBLIC'S TRUST and broke the law.A crime is a crime no matter who the server of that crime happens to be.Others couldn't hide behind there preist why should Mark Foley.
