Delay of USDA Hunger Report Until After Elections
November 01, 2006 3:16 PM
ABC News' Gigi Stone reports: While there has been widespread criticism about the administration concealing bad news about the war for poltical reasons, there is now a growing chorus of concern this has become a strategy in other areas as well. Government watch dogs and Democrats point to the recent revelations about internal IRS memoranda that suggest that the IRS was intentionally delaying enforcement actions to insulate Republicans standing for reelection.
NOW questions are being raised by Democrats about whether political motivations have delayed the U.S. Department of Agriculture from releasing its annual hunger report, which is expected to show that the number of hungry Americans is on the rise under President's Bush watch. The report entitled "Household Food Security in the United States" is compiled by USDA's Economic Research Service and has historically been released in October of each year, a month after the Census Bureau releases its report on poverty. In 2004, the USDA also delayed release of this report, prompting criticism from Sen. John Kerry and hunger advocates.

Last night on cbs Katie Coric did a story on wives of soldiers struggling to make ends meet w/the help of welfare. Hello Mr. President our soldiers should never have to want or need for food. They are risking and losing thier lives for your "botched joke" of a war.How bout you lend them some grocery money.
Signed,Mother of a soldier.
P.S. You really should be ashamed of yourself. How do you sleep at night.

(Overheard in VP Dick's office):
We've got a war to worry about, what with the terrorists, WMDs, and the watchamacallits.
What's the harm if a few Americans are hungry?
They should be thankful we don't haul them off to Gitmo as "enemy combatants".

There's no excuse for ANYONE in this country to go hungry. Of course, there's no excuse for the report to not be released PRIOR to the election, either. We, the people, have a right to know what's in that report so more mistakes can be prevented by electing/reelecting people who don't care.

I`m very frustrated with the media! American people need to know that Iran is out to get us and Israel! We need to stop all dealings with Iran!!!I feel that it is Iran that is fueling the Iraq war. The Iraqi people are dieing along with our troops! I really smell a rat!
