Dodd Calls Iraq Partition Plan a "Formula for Disaster"
November 16, 2006 2:03 PM
ABC News' Karuna Seshasai Reports: Presidential hopeful Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) came out forcefully against a partition plan for Iraq calling it a "formula for disaster" with the "three groups fighting as far as the eye could see." Dodd's position puts him at odds with his colleague and potential rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE). Acknowledging that we "might end up there," Dodd adamantly believes that it "ought not start there." The Senator supports moving the troops around the region to areas such as the Syrian border, Afghanistan, and Kuwait to protect their infrastructure while demanding that the Iraqis take responsibility for their own government.
After speaking today at Howard University on his future vision for America, Sen. Dodd answered a question about future American military involvement in Iraq. Dodd didn't "claim to have the answer." But he knows it has to be a political solution because it is not the US military's job to "go out and act like a traffic cop in the middle of civil war."

I agree with Sen. Chris Dodd (D) that partitions will lead only to years of Palastinian/Israel type fighting that no one can control. In Kentucky we say "United we stand, divided we fall". I believe that holds true in Iraq as well. Funny, how we've gone from hope of Democracy to hope of stability in Iraq, partitions are NOT going to help the country. If they are not going to be a democracy, I'd at least like to see them united.

You may place thousands of our forces in Iraq. Or further around the border countries but this will make NO DIFFERENCE. Remember we can't even protect OUR OWN borders.
You can't "protect the structures" if individuals have guns and other killer devices pointed at you. Additionally they are willing to kill any "occupying" force.
We are "occupying" as a babysitter. There is NO military solution. NONE! They need to address their OWN politics without Bush and Co keeping their NOSE in IT! Bush needs to withdrawal his nose completely.
There might be a stage of "peace on earth" for a short time coming up. After that YOU will see Saigon fly outs.
