Democratic Campaign Office "Skunked"

ABC News' Daniel Steinberger reports: When Jay Fawcett's Democratic campaign for Congress opened its office this morning in Colorado Springs, CO the Fawcett campaign said they found that their office had a skunk like smell making it very hard to work and utilize its 200 volunteers.

The Colorado Springs police confirm there was an obnoxious smell at the office but said that no one appeared to have gained entry into the office. Police suspect the smell may have come from a chemical that can be used for pranks and can be easily bought over the counter at stores.

Wanda James, campaign manager for Jay Fawcett said they were going to clean up the mess and "make damn sure it does not effect them" in any way. They will "of course not" blame this as a reason should they lose today.

When contacted by ABC News, Jonathan Hotaling for the Doug Lamborn campaign said they had not heard this and if it was true they thought it was "unfortunate that it happened and there is no place in any campaign for such tactics".

Police filed a report and are investigating the situation as "suspicious circumstances".

Fawcett is in a competitive race against Lamborn for the 5th congressional district seat being vacated by retiring Rep. Joel Hefley (R-CO). This district which is considered a mostly Republican district has seen a late surge by Fawcett in recent weeks. If Jay Fawcett beats Doug Lamborn today, he will be the first Democrat ever elected to the seat in the district's history. The seat which was created in 1972 has been held by only three other men. Lamborn's efforts in his campaign were hurt by not receiving the endorsement of Hefley.

The smell was probably a republican hiding in the closet. Everyone knows they stink.

The Republicans, led by Karl Rove, are some the nastiest, dirtiest, scum on the earth today. Even those who allow a person like Rove to remain in power are just as guilty. Of course, what can you expect from a man, Rove, who bugged his own office to blame a Democrat? Folks who vote Republican are validating this type of lowest-of-low tactics.

There is nothing that a Repiglican won't do for power and to keep abusing the public trust.

They are without a doubt the most dishonest, perverted lost souls in politics.

Just look at all the thousands Bush has killed by his arrorgance, lies, greed and stupidity in Iraq!

I voted all demos today and am proud of it.

The Repigs can go back to the hell realm they came from...especially that traitorous, criminal Bush gang.

God Bless America!!!

Why should we be suprised? This is tame compared to what Bush and his Homeland Security (Gestopo) want to implement by Jan. 14th, 2007. Every American will NOT, I repeat will NOT, be "ALLOWED" to leave the country by ANY mode of tranportation without being first "CHECKED-OUT" by Bush's thugs at Homeland (Fatherland) Security!Welcome to the 4th Reich and Bush's New World Order.

It is obvious George has no idea what he is doing. If he is going to make it that difficult to leave he should forget about Mexico and just buid a fence around the whole damn country. Pretty soon we won't be able to cross our own borders. Home of the free indeed!!
