Will the 3M's Prove Decisive?
November 05, 2006 7:12 PM
ABC News' Teddy Davis Reports: Any reporter who has been to a pen-and-pad briefing with Rep. Tom Reynolds (R-NY) knows that the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee loves his three M's.
The New York congressman known as "Mr. Clout" never tires of predicting that the midterms will be decided by "members, message, and money," and not the myriad corruption scandals that have garnered so much press coverage in the past year.
Well now there's a new reference to "the three M's" that's gaining currency among people who watch the Senate.
For the last couple of weeks, strategists have been focused on Tennessee, Virginia, and Missouri.
But as ABCNews' own Mark Halperin noted Sunday on "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," the focus may now be shifting to "the three M's": Montana, where Sen. Conrad Burns (R-MT) might save himself, Missouri, which is still expected to be close until the very end, and maybe Maryland, where Democratic strategist Donna Brazile expressed concern Sunday that Lt. Gov. Michael Steele (R-MD) might be making inroads in Prince George's County, a predominantly African-American suburb of Washington, DC.
Steele picked up a key endorsement last week from "lifelong" Democrat Wayne Curry, the former Prince George’s County Executive, who cited concerns about his part of the state being "neglected, overlooked, and disparaged in the sanctums of the Democratic Party."

am I the only one sick of corruption in government? both partys care less about middle class. dems going after the poor voters, gop the rich. middle class left paying the tax's for both the freeloaders and the filthy rich. most rich couldn't support themself if they didn't have a trust fund.but have hand out for gop tax breaks.

I hope that Cardin doesn't lose just because African-Americans in Maryland vote strictly on race. This is one election where supporting your party is more important than supporting your race.
