Reid to Challenge Bush on Iran
January 19, 2007 8:44 AM
ABC News' Teddy Davis Reports: When the Democratic leaders of Congress offer their State of the Union prebuttals at the National Press Club later today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., plans to challenge for the first time President Bush's authority to pursue an incursion into Iran without prior congressional approval.
"This morning, I'd like to be clear," Reid plans to say according excerpts of his speech obtained by ABC News, "The President does not have the authority to launch military action in Iran without first seeking congressional authorization."
A government official recently told ABC News' Martha Raddatz that "the Administration has come to the conclusion that Iran and Syria are waging war against the US through proxies."
When National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley appeared on ABC News' "This Week" on Jan. 14, he refused to answer whether the President already has the authority he needs to go into Iran.
"So you don't believe you have the authority to go into Iran?" asked ABC News' George Stephanopoulos.
"I didn't say that," replied Hadley.
As he avoided answering Stephanopoulos' repeated questions, Hadley sought to reiterate what President Bush said during his recent primetime address.
"What I'm saying is this," said Hadley. "This is a problem. It needs to be deal with. We intend to deal with it by interdicting and disrupting activities in Iraq sponsored by Iran that are putting our troops and Iraqis at risk."
Reid is expected to make these remarks and take questions at the National Press Club at 10:30 am ET. He will be joined by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

Harry Reid should be ashamed of himself for making such terrible statements. He should be charged for treason. Millions of Americans have given their lives as a sacrafice for our Freedom, especially for his. It is very sad, that he said that we have already lost the War,my grandson just left last week to join the navy as a medic. I would hate for him to become discouraged, before finishing bootcamp. He signed up because he believed in helping the troops overseas. He believes in FREEDOM.....

First of all If you really want to see the war end,you can start by putting some new names in the ranks (military) like Clinton, Bush,Chaney and any other of those over rated yahoo's that think that the middle and lower classes need to do the fighting for the rich and aimless. It's time they grabbed the stinky end of the stick
