Clinton (Heart) Israel
February 08, 2007 2:23 PM
ABC News' Kristina Wong Reports: Senator Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., attempted to solidify her position as a pro-Israel presidential hopeful Thursday, appearing at an event to release a report that criticizes Palestinian textbooks for their anti-Israeli sentiments and statements.
According to the report, sponsored by Palestinian Media Watch (PMW), the new textbooks contain excerpts that "glorify terror and teach their children to hate Israel, vilify Israel's existence and define the battle with Israel as an uncompromising religious war."
"I have been and will continue to be a very strong supporter of Israel," Clinton said.
Remarking that the report's findings disturbed her, the New York Senator added, "Children are encouraged to see martyrdom as something to strive for," before concluding, "Hate has no place in schools."
Itamar Marcus, Director of PMW and co-author of the report, spoke alongside Clinton, claiming the textbooks deny both Israel's existence and the Holocaust.
Clinton also expressed unequivocal support for Israel when an Israeli reporter asked whether as president of the United States, she would follow President Bush in his strong support for Israel.
Clinton declared, "That will continue...we must let the world know we stand with Israel."
The full report is available here.
