ABC News' Paul Fidalgo Reports: While speaking to members of the Democratic National Committee at its winter meeting on Friday, former Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., urged fellow Democrats to reclaim their party.

"We don't need to redefine the Democratic Party," said Edwards, "we need to reclaim the Democratic Party."

Echoing the earlier sentiments of Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., Edwards also spoke out against the Senate’s debate over the non-binding resolution to rebuke the President's Iraq strategy, saying, "Being satisfied with non-binding resolutions we know this President will ignore is a betrayal.  And shutting down debate in the Senate on this issue is worse than a betrayal.  It's an outright denial of the people's will."

In a not-so-veiled shot at Senator Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., Edwards, who voted in favor of the resolution which led to war in Iraq in 2002, called for "political courage" not "political calculation" on the issue of Iraq.

Edwards also called for "political courage" to face challenges like poverty, energy independence, and health care where he forcefully said, "Can the Democratic Party finally quit talking about "access" to health care when we know what that means is not universal health care?"

The Democratic vice presidential candidate in 2004 citied several challenges faced by the country and the world, and repeated the rallying cry of "Will you stand up?"

"Will you stand up for them?  Will you stand up for America?  Because if we don't stand up, who will?", Edwards howled to an energized Democratic faithful.
