Gravel Questions Fitness of Dem Rivals to Hold Presidency
February 03, 2007 11:03 AM
ABC News' Teddy Davis reports: While speaking to a Democratic presidential candidates forum in Washington, D.C., former Sen. Mike Gravel, D-Alaska, called into question the fitness of four of his better-known Democratic presidential rivals to hold the office of president of the United States.
"Anyone who voted for Bush's Iraq resolution is not qualified to hold the office of president of the United States," said Gravel who is running a long-shot bit for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.
"We should bring our troops home now. Not six months from now, not a year from now -- now," said Gravel while attacking the non-binding resolution that the Senate plans to take up next week as "melee mouthed."
Four of Gravel's presidential rivals voted to authorize the use of force in Iraq in 2002: Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., former Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del.
Gravel argued that he has the credibility to speak out on the Iraq war because of his role in opposing the Vietnam war.
Gravel, who served in the Senate from 1969-1981, is running for president "to turn every citizen into a lawmaker" by enacting a national intiative.
Befitting his signature initiative, Gravel entered and exited the ballroom in the Washington Hilton hotel, where the D.N.C.'s winter meeting is taking place, to the sounds of "Power to the People."

I used to hear of a former Alaskan senator who was very good politician. I found out wednesday, boy he is our man, to represent the people. we have lost out government, michael is here to remind us and enpower us as he says. After i saw him on the democratic candidates, even though he was the last one, he was the most impressive, and knew what he was talking about and he did shock me with what he said. yes, as i recall my civics in high school, congress does have the power to stop the war. Let us ge busy.

I wish this guy could get elected. I saw him talking about Iraq and issues on a speech we gave on YouTube. He doesn't try to be likable or flashy, he just tells you the truth you don't want to hear. Wow! A candidate who isn't full of bullshit! He's not standing on stage with cute kids or his high school sweetheart. He's just telling you the god-awful truth and what he need to do. I wish this guy could be president!

This man can be elected. After the first Dem. Debate (4.26.07) it is aparent, through the limited opportunities he had, that he has passed the point where we find his competitors. He is beyond the idealism, the fundamentalism, and placating to specific audiences. GRAVEL IS AMERICA
Support him and encourage other to learn about him and support him as well. He can accpmplish what all the others want, what we want, what America needs.
