Romney to Formally Announce Presidential Bid

ABC News' David Chalian Reports: ABC News confirms that former Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., plans to formally declare his candidacy for President of the United States next week in his native Michigan, per a campaign spokesman.
One week from today (Tuesday Feb. 13), Romney plans to officially throw his hat into the ring at an event at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI.
Romney will then fly to Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina. He will culminate his kick-off swing in Boston, MA on Thursday Feb. 15 for a gala fundraiser.
As many of you recall, Romney launched a presidential exploratory committee last month and made a splashy entrance into the presidential race by bringing supporters and fundraisers to Boston to help raise $6.5 million (in pledges and donations) in a single day.
With Sen. McCain and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani sitting high atop the polls, Romney is hoping to cash-in on some of the angst those front-runners cause for conservatives and emerge the consensus conservative candidate in the field. Social conservatives tend to dominate the caucus and primary voting population in early key states such as Iowa and South Carolina.
Romney's past attempts (successful and unsuccessful) to get elected as a Republican in the very Blue State of Massachusetts have already caused him a few bumps on that road to becoming the consensus conservative candidate with some of his quotes from his 1994 run against Sen. Ted Kennedy regarding abortion and gay rights coming back to haunt him as well as his continued support for abortion rights in his 2002 run for governor in the Bay State.

Romney's personal wealth, good looks (Matinee Mitt), and experiences in the private sector such as turning around the 2002 Olympic Games all bode well for his candidacy which may pose quite a threat to frontrunning McCain and Giuliani.
