ABC News' Z. Byron Wolf Reports: The office of Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., announced today that the senator was discharged last Friday from George Washington University Hospital to a private rehabilitation facility.

Sen. Johnson was hospitalized on December 13th, 2006 after suffering a life-threatening brain hemorrhage, for which he underwent emergency brain surgery.  Since then, Johnson's health has steadily improved.

"Senator Johnson had his final angiogram last week which confirmed that there is no evidence of residual arteriovenous malformation (AVM)," said Dr. Philip Marion, Medical Director for the Department of Rehabilitative Medicine, in a press statement. "The Senator made great progress in the two months he spent at GW Hospital and we wish him all the best in his continued recovery."

Sen. Johnson will remain in in-patient care to focus on physical, occupational and speech therapy.

Out of respect for Sen. Johnson and his family, the location of Sen. Johnson's rehabilitation facility will not be released to the public.
