Senate Fails to Invoke Cloture on House Anti-Surge Resolution
February 17, 2007 3:03 PM
ABC News' John Parkinson reports: Taking up the House version of the Iraq non-binding resolution, the US Senate failed to garner the necessary 60 votes to invoke cloture, this Saturday. The final vote was 56 - 34.
9 senators were not present for this weekend vote, among them Republican presidential hopeful John McCain. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, who had attended a town hall meeting in Dover, New Hampshire, earlier today, came back from her campaign trip to join the vote.
7 Republican senators joined the Democratic majority in voting in favor of the resolution. Senator Joe Lieberman, I-CT, voted with Republicans.

I will suggest to the democratic party to vote on a resolution that will be accepted widely by the US congress and as well as the american people. They could for specifically vote to impose deadline for troops withrawal in iraq probably by 31 december 2008.And they should stop the effort to halt the presidents troops plan.

When I watched the interview with Governor Romney today I was enraged when his wife bragged about sending all of her military age sons off on a Mormon mission for two years. At the same time Romney was solidly behind the "Surge" in Iraq.
It seems that Mormons have a greater duty to ship their kids to a foreign country on a mission to prostlytize new church members and learn a foreign language than they do to serve their country and possibly wind up on your In Memoriam section of This Week.
I have sent two grandsons to Iraq and one of them is now home crippled for life. The other lad has resigned his commission because of the terrible mismanagement of this war by the moron in the White House.
These lads are both fifth generation combat Marines. They are also practicing Catholics who will never shirk their responsibility to their country to go somewhere safe to pray.
In all the years I served in the US Marine Corps I don't ever remember serving with a Mormon in combat.

This is just beginning. This issue won't go away and the Republicans will be held accountable for their failures. Arrogance will no longer work for them - this has become an issue driven by the American people and they will not be ignored - no matter how hard Fox News tries.

I have a brother in Iraq and I for one do not appreciate the rhetoric from the senate and House who support this non binding resolution (or lets embolden our enemy resolution). Or troops need support right now. We have a lot of people speaking out of both sides of their mouth. The president is committed to success for the saftey of our long term security. Why can't we back him and our troops and work together for success (not defeat) in Iraq.

Why do people insist that those of us who want our troops to come home DON'T support them??
I fully support our troops, which is why I think they deserve to come home.
