Senators Respond to Accusations Against Iran

ABC News' John Hendren Reports: At a briefing in Baghdad, senior coalition officials presented evidence that Iranian weapons are being used to kill U.S. troops in Iraq. At some point the Administration is expected to release an Iran dossier detailing Iranian actions in Iraq.

Sens. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., and Trent Lott, R-Miss., discussed reports on the briefing with ABC News.

"I've been around long enough to know this Administration has tried in the past to sort of doctor the numbers, to cook the books to serve their policy goals," Dodd said. "We've seen that in the Iraq conflict… I'm looking at this report with a degree of skepticism. I don't doubt that Iran has been involved to some degree, and clearly that's a problem that needs to be addressed. But, I'm getting uneasy that they're trying to create a premise, set a premise, for some future broader military action in Iran. I think that would be a huge mistake."

Lott had a different take.

"There are indications that they are providing these more sophisticated explosive devices which become projectiles. That is very bad and extremely dangerous and unhelpful. We've got to find a way to control that," he said. "We're going to have to be more vigilant in finding out exactly where [the weapons] are coming from and intersecting them because they are killing Americans."
