WH Reaction to House Iraq Resolution
February 16, 2007 4:13 PM
ABC News' Karen Travers Reports: In a paper statement, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow said the House Iraq resolution is "nonbinding" and Congress will have the opportunity to show its support for the troops in Iraq by funding the appropriations request the President has submitted.
"The President believes that the Congress should provide the full funding and flexibility our Armed Forces need to succeed in their mission to protect our country," Snow says.
The statement is not critical of those who voted for the resolution but says that the new Iraq plan "enjoys the support of the Iraqi government and U.S. military leadership" including Gen. David Petraeus, commander of U.S. forces in Iraq.

His real intention is to get Congress to approve full funding and flexibility for him to become Supreme Dictator and Ruler of the World. Wake up, people. The New World DIS-Order is coming.

I wonder that now we can start calling the President by the endearing title of "Dear Leader", since he will get his way as he pleases.
The Congress should have passed a binding resolution so that they don't appear to be the Wimps that they are. In the end, Bush will have his way and young American men and women will continue to loose their lives in a distant land that had no connection to the security of the US, other than its large reserves of oil.

Democrats want a new direction. That direction appears, by all indications to be:
RETREAT!
You just can't depend on Democrats to do the right thing.

They spent untold man-hours (tax dollars) on this thing: debates, proposoals, counter-proposals, late-nite gab-fests.
And the end result is a big FAT nothing.
This new congress has much less faith in our intelligence than the previous congress. This version thinks we are completely brain-dead.
What other reason could there be for all the pomp-and-circumstance about this non-binding resolution. They can't stop Bush (they can only hope to contain him), but they do want us to know that they are "mad as hell and aren't gonna take it anymore".
But instead of coming out fighting, they came out writing.
And writing, and writing, and writing...

If you do not mind some foreigners in Japan calling the American people fat and stupid then please do not mind this message.
If you don’t mind somebody insulting the President of the United States, ignore this message.

Rep Jim Costa (D-CA) had it right when he said that the Republicans were fired in the 2006 election, but the Democrats have not really been hired yet. 2006 may have only been the "first step" in the process of change, to be "completed" in 2008 (depending on how Congress performs over the next 18 months). How many of those who voted for this resolution understand that ?

This non-binding resolution (which pretty much went down party lines) is only the first step in establishing accountability and beginning the change in U.S. policy for Iraq. By voting against this resolution, the vast majority of Republicans have shonn that they are happy with the way the war has been waged and don't care that the majority of Americans aren't happy with that war. Having clearly delineated who supports failure and who wants a change, they can now begin the heavy lifting of getting us out of Iraq. After a trillion dollars and thousands of U.S. lives wasted, this isn't a trainwreck to be fixed in an instance. The intransigence of the Republicans responsible for causing this war makes this a big job and I hope the Democrats are up to it. In the meanwhile, war with Iran may be on the horizon..in which case, only impeachment will be the proper response.
