Bush 'Sad' About Libby Verdict

ABC News' Karen Travers Reports: President Bush made his first on camera comments on the Libby verdict this afternoon in an interview with CNN en Espanol.

Bush's only reaction was to say he was "sad" and repeated his usual refrain that it's an ongoing legal matter.

Bush - March 7, 2006, CNN en Espanol

Q : Mr. President, I want to ask you about he conviction of Lewis "Scooter" Libby.  Your critics
are saying that his conviction makes the promise that you made to bring honor and dignity back to
the White House, that this promise will go unmet.

THE PRESIDENT:  Yes, first of all, this was a lengthy trial on a serious matter, and a jury of his peers convicted him.  And we've got to respect that conviction.

Secondly, this is an ongoing legal matter. In other words, there's more legal procedures to take place, and at this time, it's inappropriate for me, or the administration, to be issuing comments about this serious matter.

On a personal note, I was sad.  I was sad for a man who had worked in my administration, and particularly sad for his family.

Yeah, he's sad alright.

Sad like a fox sneakin into the henhouse to ravage and devour all the chickens.

Can someone just convict Bush already?

This is a disgrace - he was railroaded.... Libby is not the one who outed this scum bucket - and his wife....she was already OUTED.

This was a miscarriage of justice. Libby was convicted of telling the TRUTH! I certainly hope he wins on appeal. This makes NO sense at all to me...

I was sad too. Sad that this jury decided to convict a man on flimsy evidence and the memories of reporters who all had trouble with their recollections.

They couldn't get Rove and they couldn't get Cheney on anything after two years, so they had to get someone just to prove that this was not all for nothing, which is exactly what it was.

Were you also sad for ruining the career of a CIA operative, perhaps outing other CIA operatives in the process, and compromising over 10 years of WMD tracking? .... nah, I didn't think so....

And they said Clinton was a crook. At least faced impeachment and let justice take it's course. This cannot be said about Mr. Bush, justice has not taken it's course with him. From a registered Republican.

of course it is sad for the president to believe in these kind of scandles committed by people in his adminstration. It is not the president's fault, but his mis-judgement when placing such kind of people in his administration.

Mr president is being deceived and perverted by some power and wealth hungry extremist Jews in his administration.

This is the main challenge to the American Administration and the American people.

What is sad is that Libby was simply following the orders of Cheney. This is known by everyone who has a brain and has been paying attention. Libby WAS wrong in following his boss's orders, and for that he should be punished. But Dick Cheney orchestrated the events leading to his wrong doing and should be held accountable as any other American should be.

she was not outed, and libby was convicted by his peers. hard to believe a GrOPer is now saying our rule of law is no longer relevant. he broke the law, was convicted and now faces punishment, deal with it

This jury did not do its job. It was not a verdict on a leak. We all know who was the leaker. He has admitted it.

It was a verdict on Cheney, Bush, and Iraq. That is wrong.

Libby was just the tip of the iceberg on a total corrupt Presidency. It's time to take all of King Dubya's men to the woodshed and put our Government back together again!
