Dean Joins the 'No Pardon' Crowd
March 06, 2007 1:57 PM
ABC News' Tahman Bradley Reports: Democratic National Committee chair Howard Dean joined the chorus of Democratic voices calling on President Bush to pledge not to issue I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby a presidential pardon.
"The American legal system did something the Bush Administration hasn't by holding Scooter Libby accountable for his illegal actions," said Dean in a press statement. "Many unanswered questions remain about the other key Bush advisors who participated in the Administration's efforts to mislead the American people and smear its critics who have yet to be held accountable."
"Ultimately, the buck stops with President Bush," said Dean. "While he failed to keep his promise to fire the leaker, he should pledge not to pardon Scooter Libby."
Dean was referring to a declaration made by President Bush in September of 2003, after former CIA operative Valerie Plame's identity was first leaked to the press, where he said, "If there was a leak out of my administration, I want to know who it is. And if the person has violated law, the person will be taken care of."
The 2004 presidential contender also used the opportunity to attack the administration's Iraq policy, saying, "It's appalling to think that while President Bush had a high level team in place to sell the Iraq War and viciously smear its critics, it has not given that same attention to plan for postwar Iraq."
Earlier Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid also warned the President against a pardon.

Who cares what Coward Dean has to say!
Just listen to the Jurors. They are partisan hacks just like Dean. What a miscarriage of justice. It wasn't about anybody outing anybody. He either obstructed justice or he didn't. Nobody was charged with outing Valerie Plame, it didn't qualify as a crime, she wasn't covert. Tell the Truth ABC.

Oh, Go ahead and pardon the guy. Everyone already knows that this White House has no morality or credibility....what's to lose???

The 'CHICKEN-HAWK'can hardly wait to issue pardon after all he was in on the crime and is more at fault than Scooter who only carried out the CHIMPS orders.Cheney and the Moron should both be in prison if there was justice for liars and hypocrites.

Crash, stop listening to Hannity and Limbaugh and think for yourself. Obviously, since there is a guilty verdict there is also a crime. Since when did conservatives begin defending perjury?

Um, excuse me Mr. Dean, you said "The American legal system did something the Bush Administration hasn't by holding Scooter Libby accountable for his illegal actions,".
That is funny, cause the American Congress had a chance to also do someting but they decided to debate things instead of do things.

It's funny how people forget that President Clinton also Pardon "a few good men"...for Mr Reid to "Warn the President"...let's not forget Mr Clinton, Mr Reid....

If I was Bush, I would give him a pardon RIGHT NOW, but he would always have 4 felonies hanging over his head. Where was his crime? He was telling the truth. So he gets found guilty of telling the truth? This world is very screwed up right now! I hope he wins on appeal. That would be justice. What happened to Libby here was a miscarriage of justice!

Good job, Governor Dean.
Let's start seeing some common sense. If a person commits perjury, they do not get a Presidential pardon.
If they were ordered to do illegal things by their boss, their boss should be prosecuted and removed from office.
If ANYONE revealed the name of an UNDERCOVER CIA AGENT, they should, at the very least be removed from office immediately.

Just a little note: Sen. Harry Reid is the Majority leader and not the minority. Just thought that needed to be pointed out.
