Sununu: Bush Must Fire Gonzales
March 14, 2007 5:32 PM
ABC News' George Stephanopoulos Reports: Sen. John Sununu, R-NH, says the President must replace Alberto Gonzales, his embattled Attorney General.
"The President should fire the Attorney General. That's what is in the President's interest and the country's interest," Sununu said in an interview today.
“The President needs an Attorney General who is credible and has the confidence of the American people,” Sununu said, “The Attorney General cannot serve when no one in the US Senate thinks he’s credible and competent.”
Sununu said that we’re not quite there yet, but that 5-10 US Senators have questioned Gonzales’ competence publicly, and several more believe that privately.
Sununu said he based his judgments on his dealings with Gonzales on the Patriot Act reauthorization, what he called the NSC letter “fiasco” and this week’s controversy over the US attorneys.
“This shows poor leadership,” Sununu said.
He added that he was especially concerned by the fact that the Attorney General’s chief of staff Kyle Sampson was sending emails about the dismissals of US attorneys “back and forth with the White House. This shows a lack of discipline and supervision in the Attorney General’s office.”
“That's not the way decisions should be made,” Sununu said.

I agree with the Senator the American people love politicians they can trust and the Attorney General is not one of them.

Bush does not need to fire Gonzales. Sununu is treading on thin ice. It is he that may be on the firing line instead.

What a bunch of racketeers in the leadership of the GOP. This scandal is going to get much muich bigger. I hope the American people remember WHO stands in front of this investigation as it progresses.

I agree with the senator, Gonzales should be dismissed.
Obviously, they didn't think Harriet Miers could take the heat either and asked for her resignation. Gonzales should resign he doesn't have the respect of the American people. He looked like a school boy at in the principals office at his press conference.

This is the biggest non-story the Dems have brought forth to destroy the President yet. What were these mistakes everyone keeps saying Gonzales made? People on the left, including Sununu, are so blinded by by hatered for W that they look like lunatics. I only wish the left could be so passionate about defeating the enemies of the US who have sworn to kill us.
