Huckabee on the Ground in N.H., Challenging Labels

ABC News' Brandon Odoi Reports: Beginning early Wednesday morning, former Gov. Mike Huckabee, R-Ark., began an aggressive day of retail politics in New Hampshire, where he focused on getting past the label of "second tier" candidate.

Speaking to New Hampshire Public Radio's Laura Knoy, host of "The Exchange," Huckabee said of his dark horse status in the 2008 GOP presidential contest, "if popularity was the only qualification, we could elect Paris Hilton president if she were only 35." And to the millions of dollars necessary for a candidate to mount a serious White House bid in modern politics, Huckabee cautioned that the country is in danger of auctioning off the presidency. "We might as well just put (the presidential race) up on EBAY," he joked.

While away from a candidate forum in Washington, D.C., in which most of his rivals for the 2008 Republican nomination attended, Gov. Huckabee got out early with two radio interviews and was scheduled to end his day with a face-to-face meeting at a 'house party' later in the day. Sandwiched in between those stops were business meetings, a luncheon, and right-hand shakes with as many voters as possible.

"You won't win in New Hampshire if you don't do it," say Cliff Hurst, Gov. Huckabee's state co-chair. Voters here are "offended" if candidates do not make a consorted effort to reach out and express their views in a very personal way, he said.

My comment is for Mr. Huckabee: I find it an insult and not ar all funny with the remark in relation to Paris Hilton; She does not represent the woman who carry thenselves with dignity or the morals that God require's in us as Christian woman, It is Ms. Hilary Clinton that is able too as a woman to carry this country into the realm of Honor and Respect, not Paris Hilton. But as an American I am Proud to say you to are entitled to you r thoughts and opinions, that is the Greatness of the Couintry I love so very much. Sincerely a Fifth Generation Irish Woman.
