Kurtz: Looking Back At The '9/10 Rudy'

ABC's Jake Whitman Reports:  Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is riding high in the latest polls in the race for the 2008 Republican nomination for president.   But this morning, the Washington Post's Howard Kurtz analyzes an obstacle Giuliani could soon face on his road to the nomination.

Kurtz reports that, "The former mayor's earliest adversary is the New York press corps, and its depiction of what has come to be dubbed the 9/10 Rudy."

Kurtz predicts Giuliani's new front-runner status will attract new focus on his personal and political difficulties before he became "America's Mayor" after the 9/11 terror attacks.

Kurtz points out this sort of media scrutiny is nothing new, but in Giuliani's case, a long list of unflattering incidents is easy to come by.   How will Giuliani weather the storm once New York's journalists begin retelling these stories?

I am glad that someone is looking into this. While Rudy might be a decent President, it is not worth demeaning the position of first lady with the first "bimbo" in that position. Any woman who is so power hungry that she wants to move into the same house as the ex wife and her kids, can only care about herself and not how it affects the kids, i.e. the estrangement of Guiliani and his kids.

This Guiliani guy is the biggest imposter ever. Even bigger than Jay Leno. What did he actually DO after 911 to earn such praise from everyone?

Mayor of NYC. What a joke. That city runs itself thanks to the unions and other "groups".

So he stood in front of the microhphone everyday and told us what happened. Big deal. We could see what happened.

The way everyone acts, you would think he appeared in a Superman costume and lifted the WTC towers back up into place, all the while destroying OBL with his laser vision.

If America chooses this guy for president, he will make George W look like George W(ashington).

Unions ran the city? Unions did not cut the murder rate drastically. Unions forced the city to raise taxes to huge levels because of their refusal to open up public work projects up to better, cheaper contractors. Giuliani is the one who saved the city from fiscal crisis, even Dems Mario Cuomo and Bill Clinton will agree. Don't forget, Rudy could have easily hidden behind Bush and the federal government (aka Ray Nagin of New Orleans) Instead he took the initiative in coordinating rescue activities, saving 99.5% of those who could be saved on September 11th according to experts. He was unpopular because he did the tough right thing, not the easy way out.

Sorry, Justin, but Guiliani bears a great deal of responsibility for the deaths of the firefighters and police who died in the WTC. He failed to ensure that the communications systems were upgraded as was recommended several times after the '93 attack. Also, I've never heard a single person attribute any saved lives to the actions of Rudy Guiliani. And who had the brilliant idea of locating the city's emergency command center in close proximity to such a prime target?
