McCain Tells Letterman He's In
March 01, 2007 2:59 AM
ABC's Jake Whitman Reports: Sen. John McCain, R-AZ, has kept a promise to David Letterman, by announcing he will seek the 2008 Republican presidential nomination. "The last time we were on this program, I'm sure you remember everything very clearly that we say, but you asked me if I would come back on this show if I was going to announce. ... I am announcing that I will be a candidate for president of the United States.''
McCain says he will make a formal announcement in April.
Letterman asked McCain if he would consider being a vice presidential candidate. McCain repeated what he said in 2004 when rumored as running mate material: "You know, I spent all those years in a North Vietnamese prison camp, kept in the dark, fed scraps — why the heck would I want to do that all over again?"
This is not the first time a politician has turned to a late-night talk show to announce a candidacy. Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced his run for California governor in 2003 on NBC's "Tonight Show with Jay Leno." John Edwards, then a Democratic senator from North Carolina announced his intentions to run for president in 2004 on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart."

I am a Reagan conservative. I have been very upset at the way John McCain has worked against President Bush, my president.
John McCain is the one so called Republican that I will never vote for. I have never missed a vote since becoming of voting age, but if John McCain is my parties nominee, I will sit on my hands come election day.

You're a Reagan conservative who supports dubya??? That man's as far from any FORM of conservative as you can be. McCain's an idiot, but dubya's just a moron.

Our great nation is in dire trouble! The potential prospects for the presidency of our country are pathetic! I have voted for a republican for president in every election....even that party the choices are bad.
