Members of Tennessee Congressional Delegation Push Thompson '08 Prez Bid
March 19, 2007 4:31 PM
ABC News' Tahman Bradley Reports: Supporters of former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-TN) are hoping the ex-lawmaker turned actor will do more than just dabble in 2008 presidential waters by launching an official 2008 online presidential draft movement.
Reps. Zach Wamp (R-TN) and John Duncan (R-TN) announced on Monday the formation of Draft Fred Thompson 2008 along with the website www.fred08.com to motivate Thompson to seek the 2008 Republican nomination for president.
In an interview with ABC News, Congressman Wamp--who serves as chairman of the online draft effort along with Congressman Duncan--said he thinks Thompson is very serious about a White House run and expects the former senator to make a decision as early as May. "This is not some mild consideration, this is a serious serious consideration," he said.
Wamp says he sees "no strong candidates" among the current Democratic and Republican presidential field and does not believe Thompson would be at a disadvantage if he chooses to enter the race several months from now.
Thompson's draft effort is also being supported by Reps. Gresham Barrett (R-SC), Jeff Miller (R-FL) and Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), Wamp said.
The newly launched site declares "Fred is a real conservative, (f)rom tax cuts, to cleaning up government, to his vital role in the confirmation of Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, Fred Thompson has a record of fighting for conservative values."
The star of the NBC drama "Law and Order" generated a stir when he floated around the possibility of an '08 White House run just last week. "I want to see my colleagues on the campaign trail, what they say, what they emphasize, whether they can carry the ball next November," Thompson told Fox News.

We are really hoping Sen. Fred Thompson will run for President in 2008. He has the same views we do!

Senator Fred Thompson stands out in a presidential race full of carpetbaggers and snakeoil salesmen.
Fred Thompson For President.

Senator Thompson please run. You are the only Presidential possibility for whom I could, in good conscience, work to get elected. May God bless you and lead you to run.

Most of the people I know are enthusiastic about Fred Thompson running for president. He needs to be encouraged at all costs.

As an Independent, my wife and I haven't had alot to shout (vote) about until former Senator Fred Thompson decided to test the waters for a possible Presidential bid. He brings a hugh hope for this nation by his decision, and will definitely have the votes and Blessings of us and our 6 children and anyone else we can reach....

It is my sincere hope that Fred runs, he is the first candidate for president that I have been enthusiastic about since Ronald Reagan, and the first one that appears based upon his record, to be able to follow in Reagan's footsteps.

I almost killed myself running down the stairs this morning trying to get on my computer to send an email encouraging Mr. Thompson to run AND to send in the first political donation I've made to either a Party or Candidate since Republicans first lost their courage a few years ago. I haven't been this excited to see someone run EVER!! PLEASE FRED, WE NEED YOU IN OFFICE!!! Woo-HOO!!

I'll support Fred Thompson all the way to the Whitehouse if he decides to run. No announced candidate from either the Democrat or Republican parties is as qualified to lead this country as is Fred. P pray he will decide to run.

Fred Thompson, is a great candidate for 2008! He would help the small person for several reasons. Those reasons starting with why does a Guy even run for office, to help those lower than himself. To pull those in Iraq out and other locations too.
Congratulations to Mr. Thompson. Hopefully the younger generation can help somehow.

Senator Thompson, Please announce your candidacy.
We need you.
The people need you.
The veterans need you.
The children need you.
Please put hope, pride, power and prayer back in the race, and in the government.
My father was in WWII, Korea and Viet Nam, and was a retired veteran. I'm a retired veteran. my wife is a veteran, my son is a veteran. We will support you and thank you for giving us hope.

Mr. Thompson IS the buzz here in Iowa. Conservative enough for conservatives, able to unite the party and communicate to America.
I checked the American Conservative Union, Mr. Thompson has a lifetime 86 rating...not the highest, but high enough for the average conservative. If he gets the nomination I will be working hard as I can for him.

He has a presence which engenders trust, a calm assurance that is well translated through the media. I too wish his rating was higher than 86 but would love to vote for him--please announce your candidacy...and soon.

I had the opportunity to meet Fred last fall, and if anyone could be a better President, I don't know who it would be. He embodies all of the things we all want in a leader. As my ten-year old son who also met him says, "Fred for Prez!"

I'm a moderate... most on the right would call me a communist, and most on the left would call me a fascist. I would never even have considered giving money or effort to any presidential campaign. But I believe that Fred Thompson can heal the rift that has formed in our great nation. I believe that he has the wisdom and strength to lead us to solutions, and it makes me glad to hear that there is hope that he will run.

The main reason the g.o.p.lost the house and the senate is because the base did not turn out.The base is excited about Fred Thompson. The left does not want him to run because they know he would easly take the nomination, and then the White House.I truly am excited about a Thompson campaign.Fred/Rudy 2008 sounds like a ticket that would be tough to beat!!!!

All I have asked for is a candidate I can get behind and get excited about, that candidate is Fred Thompson. He stands for what I believe in. There is NO ONE in this race so far I would get up off the couch to vote for. I'd run all the way to vote for Thompson! Please give us a chance to put an honest man in office.

The Knoxville News Sentinel has posted an online news article revealing that the so-called grassroots "Draft Fred Thompson 2008" unauthorized political committee was actually launched by former Thompson political aide Dean Rice.
Federal Election Commission records also that the "Draft Fred Thompson 2008" unauthorized political committee is currently unfunded, "nada" --- that is to say, with zero dollars in contributions from all these phanton "Thompson for President 2008" supporters. The abovementioned information should be the real Draft Thompson For President story reported by ABC News...
