Members of Tennessee Congressional Delegation Push Thompson '08 Prez Bid
March 19, 2007 4:31 PM
ABC News' Tahman Bradley Reports: Supporters of former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-TN) are hoping the ex-lawmaker turned actor will do more than just dabble in 2008 presidential waters by launching an official 2008 online presidential draft movement.
Reps. Zach Wamp (R-TN) and John Duncan (R-TN) announced on Monday the formation of Draft Fred Thompson 2008 along with the website www.fred08.com to motivate Thompson to seek the 2008 Republican nomination for president.
In an interview with ABC News, Congressman Wamp--who serves as chairman of the online draft effort along with Congressman Duncan--said he thinks Thompson is very serious about a White House run and expects the former senator to make a decision as early as May. "This is not some mild consideration, this is a serious serious consideration," he said.
Wamp says he sees "no strong candidates" among the current Democratic and Republican presidential field and does not believe Thompson would be at a disadvantage if he chooses to enter the race several months from now.
Thompson's draft effort is also being supported by Reps. Gresham Barrett (R-SC), Jeff Miller (R-FL) and Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), Wamp said.
The newly launched site declares "Fred is a real conservative, (f)rom tax cuts, to cleaning up government, to his vital role in the confirmation of Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, Fred Thompson has a record of fighting for conservative values."
The star of the NBC drama "Law and Order" generated a stir when he floated around the possibility of an '08 White House run just last week. "I want to see my colleagues on the campaign trail, what they say, what they emphasize, whether they can carry the ball next November," Thompson told Fox News.

Senator Thompson, the people need you.Straight talk and truth needs to come back to our government.Laws need to be enforced that sit idle and accumulate dust.Borders need to be shut, and illegals shipped home.Release those falsely imprisoned and falsely accused.Send those who warranted this order to jail.Sir we need a strong individual, you can do it!

Fred Thompson is the right person for president. We need his straight-forward conservative beliefs and solid moral convictions to lead America. No more wishy-washy, politically correct hog wash, we need someone who will stand up for America and her citizens. Fred would restore America to the strong, powerful country of Regan era. GOD BLESS AMERICA

FDT has my vote, ever since I heard him say that he would pardon the Texas border agents, "right now".
No waiting to see what the polls and focus groups say, do it now because it is the right thing.
What else can I do to encourage and support him ?
Contributions will be forthcoming.

Fred;
We (the country) need you to run for President in '08. You are the only real, down to earth American that can point this country in the right direction. We need your leadership and vigilance to keep the Dem's from running the United States of America in the ground!
You'll have my vote in '08 if you decide to run!!
Good Luck!
A fellow Tennessee Volunteer

I cannot honestly recall ever seeing the current level of excitement generated by anyone considering a candidacy....and I've been through more than three decades of sizing up Presidential hopefuls.
As a moderate independent who cares more about integrity and intelligence than the latest buzz issues of the day, I can more than envision Fred as the next American President. It is glaringly apparent that he would be a highly competent and fair leader.

Honesty, Integrity, Willingness to stand for even unpopular convictions, Ability to communicate, conservative, couragous, experienced, protective yet bold . . . that's all we're asking for in a President. Maybe Fred Thompson is that man - Maybe what the country needs is a wise "Grandfather figure" to cut through all the politics on both sides, line up on the outside, catch the ball and carry it for the winning touchdown. Fred . . . we already know how the others are going to carry the ball - Can we say fumble?

In my hunble opinion we have not had a "Statesman" in this country for far too long so we are way past overdue and Fred Thompson more than qualifies. For far too many elections I have voted for the lesser of two evils and I would love to actually cast a vote for someone I like, respect and in whom I have hope and faith. We desperately need so many things changed, cleaned up, straightened out and Fred Thompson is, I think, the only person out there who could and would get us turned around and headed back in the right direction. We need someone with good, old fashioned values and walking-around sense and sensibilities to undo some of the ridiculous "political correctness" and idiocy under which our country currently operates. Everyone I knew feels as I do so we are not in the minority, although we have been ignored forever. I will even, for the first time in more years than I care to count, work for the local Fred Thompson headquarters and campaign to get him elected! Now that's something I never expected or dreamed I would be al be to say again in my lifetime! I am all enthused and hopeful, so please, Senator Thompson, help us! God bless and keep you.

Former Senator Thompson could very well be the RNC's secret weapon!
Giuliani, McCain, Romney, Gingrich, Brownback, Hunter... they all have their positives and negatives, but Mr. Thompson is one guy who I could and feel proud to campaign for. For what it's worth, you've got a vote down here in Texas, Mr. Thompson!

I believe in the Providence of God and I think that Fred Thompson is the answer to our prayers! But God will not do everything for us -- we are all going to have to work hard to get him to run and when nominated -- to help him WIN! I hope that every conservative and moderate citizen will look at Fred Thompson as the ONLY realistic answer to the leadership void that will develop at the end of President Bush's term. We need someone who is strong from the inside-out instead of someone who is constantly being led by the nose by radicals on either end of the political spectrum. We need Fred Thompson!!

I believe Fred Thompson is prob.
the only poss. candidate who shares my philosophy 100%. He is
also the person who is definately
able to capture the nomination
hands-down and defeat any democrat
nominee in 2008, in my opinion!
I strongly urge him to run!!!

Fred is the first candidate in many years that I can be excited about supporting. We need to restore integrity, honesty and common sense to our government.

We need a man who will attack the corruption in Wash. D.C. Someone who will jail those who are hiring illegal aliens and secure our borders. Someone who regulates business and is not it's slave. Someone who will attack Pork, get rid of special interest group financing of elections, support education of Americans. We need someone that is fed up with politics as usual and returns only by demand because of their moral integrity. We need someone who is not going to sell us out to foreign interests or try to save the world. We need you Fred. So let's get to it ole boy and go get our country back. I'll be there all the way. Ken

Normally, on any website mentioning a conservative in a positive light, there are just as many negative comments as there are positive. We all know the "tin foil hat crowd" lives on the internet and they purposely go to conservative blogs and wedsites to talk trash. This is done to cast doubt about a particular conservative and demoralize us. That's all the Libs and the Media did to win in '06. I think it speaks volumes that there is not 1 negative comment on here (and this is abcnews after all) about Fred Thompson.
My opinion on Fred:
1. He's a proud conservative, solid on our issues.
2. He can articulate our message.
3. He's not afraid of the Lib Media.
4. He's for border security. (although I do wish he would come around on deportation of the current illegals, anything can be done if we put our minds to it)
5. He speaks of States Rights, which is the basis of the Constitution, and I haven't heard that from anyone in my lifetime.
6. Since he is proud conservative like Reagan, he will gain the support of the moderates.
7. Oh, and I love all his movie roles (especially in Barbarians at the Gate)
The only thing I want to hear from him is that he will clean out the career Libs in State, Justice, and any other Department that will undoubtedly undermine his administration the same way they have done to Pres. Bush.
You certainly will have my vote Fred, and I will do all I can to convince others!

RUN FRED RUN as many above have said. I miss Reagan terribly and I know that you would be a great President also.
I would love to see JC Watts as your VP. Man, what a ticket!
Listen to us, Mr. Thompson, we are out here waiting for you...
