Snow Still On The Job

ABC News' Jonathan Karl Reports: At the hospital and recovering from surgery, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow is up to at least one of his old tricks: correcting things he doesn't like in the press.

At 4:30 this afternoon, Tony Snow called the White House press office from his hospital bed to correct something he had read in the 10th paragraph of the AP wire story about his cancer.

The AP had reported this: "Among the unanswered questions are how far the cancer spread, how extensive the cancer in his liver is, and whether it can be surgically removed if it hasn't been already."

There was nothing technically incorrect with that sentence.  The White House had not answered those questions, but Snow was ready to answer one: the cancer, he told Deputy Press Secretary Dana Perino, is not "in" his liver.  It is "attached" to his liver.

Perino put out a statement with the new information and soon the AP story was updated with the new information.

Perino tells ABC News that Snow had other news to report.  He has been out for a couple of walks with his family at the hospital and is "feeling good."  Snow told Perino he intends to begin an "aggressive" program of chemotherapy as soon as he has recovered enough from his surgery.

Most importantly, Snow told her he fully intends to return to work as soon as he is able.  In the meantime, it seems he'll be reading the news … and calling in when he sees something he doesn't like.

Dear Tony and family,
I am sorry to hear of your trouble and hope to see you back talking to reporters very soon.
You are just a kid so I will have to call you Tony, okay? I am 54, lol!

My heart goes out to Tony Snow and his family. He is a wonderful citizen and servant of the public. Am so glad to hear he is keeping the press straight. (It's so hard to believe anything they say anymore.) Prayers are with you Tony and get well soon!

If I was a psychic, I would have told you on Friday that the news about you was not going to be good. I was watching you informing the White House press about your trip to the doctor on Monday for a routine surgery. But something happened. My heart jumped in fear the same way I felt watching some reporter telling the world on September 11, 2001 that some plane had hit one of the WTC towers by accident. On that fateful day, judging by the uniqueness of the shockwave sent by my heart to the rest of my body, I knew that something was up. Something inside of me was telling me that this was no accident. The rest of course is history. As America recovered from 9/11 and so will you Tony. May God give you strength and protect you against this evil force. He will.

Dear Tony & Family

How courageous and brave you must be. God does not give this
challenge or opportunity to all.
May you recover soon and teach
us your lessons along the way.
In every major setback there is always the energy and will to climb
back up that mountain again. You
seem to have the energy and will.
The rest is left up to God and our
prayers for your full recovery.

We might be further along in our battle against cancer if this administration had been more supportive of stem cell research. While I wish Mr. Snow every good wish in his battle against cancer, the fact remains that this administration has done a lot of harm to our nation in a great many areas. Sympathy for Mr. Snow should not be translated to giving the Bush administration a pass on all the damage they've done to the U.S.
