Webb Staffer Arrested for Gun Possession
March 26, 2007 4:30 PM
ABC News' Z. Byron Wolf Reports: Capitol Police Sgt. Kimberly Schneider confirms that a staffer for Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., was arrested when attempting to enter the Russell Senate Office Building (just a few hundred yards shy of the Capitol complex) with a loaded weapon.
The Capitol's police spokesperson in full: "A man entered the Lower Delaware & C Street Door of the (Russell Senate Office Building) at approximately 10:50 a.m. An administrative search (x-ray machine) revealed that he was in possession of a loaded pistol with 2 additional fully loaded magazines. It was determined that he did not have a license to carry a pistol in the District of Columbia. He was in possession of an unregistered firearm and unregistered ammunition. He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Carrying a Pistol Without a License, Unregistered Firearm and Unregistered Ammunition."
Webb, a member of the National Rifle Association, returned fire on the subject via his communications director, Jessica Smith, who said, "To our knowledge, this incident was an oversight by the Senator's aide. Phillip Thompson is a former Marine, a long-term friend and trusted employee of the Senator. We are still awaiting facts."
Irony alert: last week House Republicans used DC's prohibition on firearms to scuttle a Democratic plan to give DC a vote in the House (along with giving Utah an extra vote). Read more about that from the Washington Post here.

"Unregistered ammunition"? WTF? The anal retentive yuppie liberals of the DC area are going all out to make stupid laws against the law-abiding armed citizen, while their entire city is awash in violent crime. That selfsame violent crime is being committed daily by people WHO MAKE THEIR LIVING DISREGARDING THE LAW. They have no fear of DC's stupid, draconian gun laws, because THEY BREAK THE LAW AS A MATTER OF COURSE.
Your intellectually bankrupt, ineffectual gun laws have no salutory effect on the crime that is sweeping the DC area, and the only thing you can think of to do about it is MAKE UP MORE STUPID GUN LAWS. Darwinian selection will eventually weed the yuppie liberal out of existence as a result of his facilitating the activities of the violent criminal element he so loves.
My take is that he was carrying in DC precisely because it is a very dangerous and barbaric city, and having a weapon in such a place gives one a distinct advantage.
Those who react with hysterical fear at the sight of firearms(or any other inanimate object) are clearly suffering from emotional and intellectual retardation.
