Clinton Talks Turkey with Rachael Ray
April 26, 2007 11:29 AM
ABC News' Sunlen Miller and Jennifer Parker Report: Former President Bill Clinton appeared on perky cook Rachael Ray's daytime talk-show Thursday to promote his fight against childhood obesity.
"We run the risk of raising the first generation of children in America to life shorter lives than their parents," said Clinton, telling the studio audience that 13-million children in American are overweight and at risk for Type II diabetes.
Clinton, who was notorious for his affinity for fast food while he was running for president, had quadruple coronary artery bypass surgery in 2004.
"I've got a scar down my chest to prove it," he said, explaining that he was overweight as a child. He said he started running 20 miles a week as an adult to keep the weight off, but still indulged in fast food.
The former president said he is concerned about his wife's diet during her run for the Democratic presidential nomination.
"I worry about the nights when she doesn't get to eat anything until 10:00pm," said Clinton. "If you eat too late you add weight."
"Who's going to do the cooking for you and Hillary on the campaign trail?" Ray asked.
"Someone else," said Clinton, standing beside Ray as she prepared low-fat turkey veggie chili.
