Edwards Pulls Out of Second Fox-Sponsored Debate
April 06, 2007 6:02 PM
ABC News' Teddy Davis and Raelyn Johnson Report: Former Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., has notified the Congressional Black Caucus that the former Democratic vice presidential nominee will not participate in a proposed debate sponsored by Fox News because, in the words of Edwards deputy campaign manager Jonathan Prince, "there's just no reason for Democrats to give Fox a platform to advance the right-wing agenda while pretending they're objective."
This is the second time that Edwards has pulled out of a Democratic debate sponsored by Fox News. Earlier this year, Edwards curried favor with liberal activists by pulling out of a Fox debate being planned by the Nevada Democratic Party. The Nevada Democratic Party ultimately dropped Fox as a sponsor.

Hoorah for Edwards! If only the rest of the Democrats would refuse debates, appearances, or any other acknowledgement of FOX.... They only get their influence when people validate them by participating and viewing. Those of us who refuse to view need the movers and the shakers to stop participating in any FOX endeavor.

This is silly and childish. If Edwards were to be elected president will he also not talk to Syria and Iran because they have a different worldview? And did he not know of Fox News' bias when he was making more than 20 appearances on their news shows? Is this guy running for Commander-in-Chief or Panderer-in-Chief? He condemns Bush for not talking to our enemies and yet uses the same Bush logic in pulling out of the Fox debate.

Good on Mr Edwards!! I applaud him

Good for him. Fox is biased. I am often under the impression that the Whitehouse pays their salaries. ABC also has a right wing bias as well.

Great job John Edwards!
Fox is nothing but Bush's bully on the playground.
Using the word News and Fox in the same sentence is a joke.
No one should consider them legitimate.
They are pure, unadulterated, Bush propaganda and the marketing arm of the RNC.
They are a joke and that's what the rest of the media should consider them.

ABC bias alert: "Earlier this year, Edwards curried favor with liberal activists by pulling out of a Fox debate being planned by the Nevada Democratic Party."
Doing the principled thing is not "currying favor." It is doing the right thing.

Good for Edwards, and for America. Fox needs to be marginalized early and often. Now, if only Hillary Clinton would find a moral compass and follow suit.

Good on Edwards for his stand!

And this guy thinks he can handle being the President of the United States?
Please.

Puhleese, Bush has made a career of not talking to either countries, the press or the public if he thinks they are against him. Good for Edwards. Fox is not only biased but virulent (the other media channels may be biased but they do not lie like Fox--remember the Foley as a "Democrat" subtitle under his name?) Bush refuses to talk to Syria and other countries even though it is obvious we will not get a resolution in Iraq without the help of its neighbors, nor does a US sanctioned gov. have credibility among its neighbors--we could say...Bush has set the precedent for "handling" the media and contacts, that Edwards is following it may be disingenuous but consider--what will a Democratic President do with all the new powers and Constitution side steps Bush has succeeded in getting? If such a thought gives you pause--then you should have been pausing long ago--and not just when the "other guy" may be in power.

Fox (so called News Corp) is not a country nor an important head of state. Any comparison with Edwards no-show at Fox's so-called debates to that of Bush's continuous arrogance in refusing to hold open discussions with his so-called enemies (not with us then your against us) is totally inappropriate. Edwards is being simply "honest" and doing the "right" thing - which can not be said of Bush. I hope Edwards also stays away from other entertainment shows like Comedy Central Programs (The Daily Show and Steven Colbert) and Network Late Night Talk Shows. If you disagree that it is unimportant to improve the blessings of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for middle class Americans (better paying jobs and health insurance)and you don't want positive changes in America's Leadership for our Nation's best interest (End War in Iraq and stop Corporate greed), then Edwards doesn't want or need your vote. John Edward's kind of intelligence and integrity is what America needs now as President and Leader of the Free World! After everything has been said, all We really need is life beyond "Bush's Thunderdome".

How can he expect to become President? John Edwards and Obama seem like cowards to me. If they can't handle this debate, how can we expect them to make important decisions?
Posted by: Deena | Apr 9, 2007 7:52:45 PM
Fox news is garbage-anyone with half a brain can see that. Edwards shows good decision making skills by not jumping on that stage. There are too many other legitimate news organizations that are more worthy. Fox ratings are down for the first time in 10 years because their lies are catching up with them just like this administration. I blocked Fox from my TV via the parental control device years ago. I refuse to let my children watch the crap.

Amazing what can come out of the mouths of some Americans. It seems they forgot this is America and we do have choices. If Mr. Edwards does not want to appear on Fox it is his right of choice. Wake up people, we still have rights in this country although it does seem that some people would want to take them away from us sometimes. Good for John Edwards to taking a stand against insults and hypocrisy.

"Typical liberals. If someone does not march in lockstep yada yada yada.."
"So what he is saying is that he only wants to hear and be heard by progressive liberals...'
no, what he's saying is that Fox should stick with producing hyped up dramas and bad sit-coms, and get the hell out of the news business. Amen.

If W followed the same line of "reasoning", when a CBS,ABC,NBC,CNN, Reuters, AP etal reporter asked a question, he'd ignore it and call on Fox and only Fox

I can't be bothered with anything these days. Basically not much noteworthy happening. I feel like an empty room. I've more or less been doing nothing.
