A Heated Exchange for Hillary

Share

April 14, 2007 2:52 PM

ABCNews' Eloise Harper reports: After fielding many questions ranging from mental health care to veteran affairs at a Town Hall Meeting in Hampton, NH, Senator Hillary Clinton received a heated question about Iraq.  A woman who had traveled from New York asked Sen. Clinton if she had read the report given to her in 2002 on intelligence and the Iraq war.

Clinton said she had been briefed on the report, and the woman screamed back, "Did you read it?!"  Notably uncomfortable, the Senator repeated that she had been briefed.  This exchange went back and forth about three times.

The woman sat down and Clinton explained, "If I had known then what I know now, I never would have voted to give this President the authority." Clinton also said she believed she was giving the President the authority to send U.N. inspectors to Iraq.

When Clinton finished the answer, the woman continued to scream but was drowned out by applause for the Senator.  The woman was escorted out of the building.

Ms. Clinton cannot have it both ways. If she did not read the report - and was mistaken that she was sending inspectors - then she is inept.

If she read the report - and came to a conclusion that most of the rest of the world came to - then own up to it. That would be honest.

With her stance right now - she is either dishonest or inept.

If she's that stupid that she didn't even know what she was voting for, GOD help us if this idiot becomes President.

So she thought she was voting to sebd inspectors into Iraq? And how did she anticipate these inspectors getting into Iraq against Saddam's wishes? The only way would be by being surrounded by U.S. troops, in other words by war. She can try to slip out of responsibility by this terminology, but it doesn't work.

Oh Good grief Lori. If she had read the report instead of being briefed on it she would have known what she was voting for. DShe's a dmaned idiot just like you.

Lori, you talk about Sen Clinton as if she is normal mother--just like any other in America. You ask us to imagine Bush "as a working Mom who just got home to 3 screaming, hungry kids,a blasting loud television,a barking dog, and an irate husband who needs you "now"!", but is it any easier to imagine Sen Clinton in this situation? No, she is a politician and a politician's wife. I guarantee that she shares few common experiences, outside of the act of childbirth, with the average American mother. I believe that men and women are equally qualified for tasks that physiology does not make especially difficult for one gender or the other. But just as I think you should not vote for a candidate just because he is a man, you should not vote for a candidate simply because she is a female. You need to realize that making general rules such as "men are better suited for the presidency" or, in your case, "women are better suited for the presidency" are simply ridiculous. These issues should be decided on a case-by-case basis because the individuals that make up each gender are not homogeneous. Therefore, given any two individuals, one male and one female, there is no way to predict, based on gender, which one will be better suited for the presidency.

This woman (Hillary) was gung-ho over the military when her husband went on national TV in 1998 and called Sadaam Hussien "a clear and present danger" to the United States ... She was similarly all too happy to vote to finally send in troops in 2002. NOW she's sorry she sent troops in, and her vote is everyone's fault but her own. If Bush lied, then Bill Clinton lied. She knew exactly what she was voting for.

She voted for War. She thought it would be a cakewalk and she would be percieved as strong. She was wrong.

How can you silly people not see through her B.S.? She thought she was voting to send UN inspectors in? WTH??? What does Bushie have to do with UN inspectors? You want someone to be president who is a.) so careless in voting that she totally didn't understand what she was voting for, or b.) so full of poop that she'll say anything to disavow her earlier vote in front of a town hall meeting? Hillary has nothing on Bill in terms of political savvy. Unlike him, she sucks at lying -- but even when he lied, he would still get things done with both parties. She just doesn't have what it takes to be president. Obama might, but he's pretty new to the scene, and I still need to hear more from him. At present, none of the Repubs thrill me. I wish Bill C. could run for a third term. He'd win by a landslide.

What mindless drivel!!! If Hillary thought she was voting to send inspectors to Iraq it proves she hasn't got a clue as to what is going on around her. Give me a break, she was briefed about everything. She is just another coniving Clinton trying to grab power for her own devious ideas.

In response to that last post by Lori: You are a sexist bigot. I feel sorry for your delusions. The authorization for war was just that. It gave the President the right to "use force." Not to send in the UN. If you read the authorization instead of making of a story that fits your desires then you would clearly see that Clinton's excuse is nothing more than political manuvering. And just so you know, your comment reads like a rationalization for the KKK, except racial superiority has been replaced by gender superiority. Can you say ignorant?

Good grief, Lori! Stop drinking the kool-aid and think for yourself. Hillary is LYING here. She won't admit it, but there is tape of her explaining her vote to AUTHORIZE THE WAR! I have watched a video of her explaining her vote to Code Pink. She doesn't say anything about inspectors going in. The inspectors had been going in for years. She voted for the war. It is sad to watch her weasel out of it now. Vote OBAMA. Don't vote for Hillary simply because she is a woman. How sad.

I'm an independent, but will never be able to vote for any one who has their major desire as to see America lose ANY war.

We are in it, so now let's win it and not try to see who can cripple America the fastest.

Senator Clinton is a joke. She sounds exactly like Kerry because it was him who uttered those exact words in the 2004 campaign, "If I knew then what I knew now". When is she going to realize you cannot undo what has already begun. She will not admit to a mistake with her pro war vote and she's to afraid to back away because she might offend the mainstream voters. Senator, have some courage because that's exactly what a real President needs!

She did not read it??? I would have expected much more from the smartest woman in America.
Now she and many others want to back peddle and claim they were victimized and fooled by the administration...They have been stated on the record for years (even during the Clinton administration) that Hussein had WMD's and he posed a serious threat.
It it always very easy to wait until Monday morning and then state what should have been done the day before.
I think this speaks volumes for her character and the others who resort to the blame game the minute things aren't so rosey.
I applaud that brave woman for confronting Mrs. Clinton and I am amused by Mrs. Clintons lack of courage to just say I was wrong. After all isn't that what the Democrats want GW to admit?

To: Lori

It seems you have a short memory.
You call Hillary Clinton "honest".

I remember "Whitewater".
I remember "The Rose law firm".
I remember the firing of all the
Federal Attorneys.
I remember the hiding of school papers that Hillary wrote in college.

If she is too stupid to know what she is voting for then surely this idiot can't be trusted to be president. Last time she was there all the silver ware disappeared!

>And we deserve the chance to prove we can run this Country much more, safely, effeciently, honestly and economically better than any man has thus far!!

Besides, it's a woman's perogative to change her mind.

Posted by: Stevanski | Apr 14, 2007 6:53:22 PM

Lori you are a moron. For God's sake, she wants to be president and (she claims) didn't even know what she was voting for when she voted for the war - if you believe her now. What's going to happen when she is confronted with people who are truly cunning and evil? Stop drinking the kool-aid and WAKE UP - you're not doing the sisterhood any good.
