MoveOn 'Bomb Bomb Bombs' McCain
April 20, 2007 11:26 AM
ABC News' Jake Tapper and David Chalian Report: The liberal activist group MoveOn.org is launching a TV ad against Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., framing his recent "Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran" song (to the tune of the Beach Boys' "Barbara Ann") as an example of his being "reckless."
Though the purchase is not a significant TV buy, it will air in the key states of Iowa and New Hampshire beginning Tuesday, April 24 and run through Friday April 27.
On Wednesday, McCain was asked during a South Carolina town hall meeting when the U.S. is going to ""send an airmail message to Tehran," to which McCain quipped, "That old Beach Boys song? 'Bomb Iran?' Bomb, bomb, bomb, bo -- anyway..."
McCain received criticism for his use of humor when discussing a weighty foreign policy position. McCain responded to his critics on Thursday by saying, "Please, I was talking to some of my old veteran friends. My response is lighten up and get a life."
Of course having the nation's most visible and vocal liberal group go after him may actually endear Sen. McCain to GOP primary voters.

Watching McCain tank like a flushed toilet is what we would expect of 21st century republicans.

I read this morning that Sen. McCain sang "Bomb Iran" in a press conference yesterday. What was he thinking? His "joke" was insensitive. It showed poor judgement. And it makes people who might otherwise vote for him think again.
As a joke, his "Bomb" joke is in poor taste. More importantly, it calls his judgement into question. It's a lot like Ronald Reagan joking about bombing Russia - a bad joke on a sensitive topic. The difference is that former president Reagan could be excused since he never claimed to be a politician and didn't know his microphone was on. Given the way that showing enthusiasm on camera brought down former governor Dean's campaign, shouldn't any experienced politician know better than to be unguarded in a press conference? After this, I think if we expected better of Senator McCain, the joke is unfortunately on us.

I'm liking John McCain more and more! I am glad he has a good sense of humor.

Is his response "lighten up and GET a life" or "lighten up and TAKE SOME LIVES" ?
Totally irresponsible, of course. But is everyone unaware that he's also guilty of plagarism by not crediting the authors of that 1980 parody of the Beach Boys' (and Regents') Barbara Ann. It came out during the Iran hostage crisis * got airplay as far away as New England where I heard it.
The song is by Vince Vance and the Valiants, a New Orleans rock band that specialized in covers of ’50s and ’60s hits.
Just thought you should know that it's not even an original idea on his part.
