Bush In Line of Fire
May 24, 2007 1:50 PM
ABC's Ann Compton reports: An outdoor news conference in perfect spring weather, with birds chirping loudly in the magnolia trees, is not without its hazards.
As President Bush took a question Thursday in the White House Rose Garden about scandals involving his Attorney General, he remarked, "I've got confidence in Al Gonzales doin' the job."
Simultaneously, a sparrow flew overhead and left a splash on the President's sleeve, which Bush tried several times to wipe off.
Deputy White House Press Secretary Dana Perino promptly put the incident through the proper spin cycle, telling ABC News, "It was his lucky day...everyone knows that's a sign of good luck."

"I just want to let Mr. Sparrow know, we know his address and FOX Security will be paying him a little visit very soon. Mark my words, bird."

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

I just wish he was looking up and yawning at that moment...

I can honestly say I haven't laughed so hard at anything in about 6 years. That bird deserves the medal of Freedom!!!

So, now that he was attacked by a sparrow, does that mean the U.S. is going to invade every blue jay nest from here to Mesopotamia?

Would you call that a "Birdy Sanchez?"

It's not considered good luck to have a bird poop on you. I haven't been able to find any reference to that superstition that does not circle back to another reference that also has no origin story or explanation.

That bird hates America and hates the troops!

Well, the only thing funnier would have been a seen where hundreds of birds pooped on him, and pursued him, pooping on him all the way.

Since when is it good luck to have a bird fly over and take a crap on you? These people will lie about anything... I noticed the news woman repeated the good luck crap too so I guess that makes it so huh? And watching bozo wipe it with his hands made me sick..yuck..

Sparrow Makes Subtle, Astute Political Statement

After the bird crapped on the President, FOX News microphones heard Dick Cheney utter the following:
"Rove, get my gun. We're hunting sparrows."
In a related move, Karl Rove announced that sharpshooters will be stationed atop the White House with full permission to shoot any and all birds that come near the President. Arlen Specter has already agreed to insert this provision into the first piece of legislation that comes across his desk.

I guess they'll have to set up a "bird-free zone" in future to protect the president from signs and portents in such form.

I think I know my nomination for Times "person" of the year. What timing. And Poor Perino: Has anyone ever considered a pile of s..to be a good omen. No wonder the facts and news are so screwed up. Sh++ = good fortune. The Chinese with a fortune cookie are surely much wiser. O dear.

Couldn't have said it better myself. How very, very fitting having the tables turned if only flitting!

What can you say about one of the "least of God's creatures" with more guts than all the dems put together. Everyone at the press conference should have been asking about the executive order Bush signed that would make him king if he decides it. The continuity of government order signed May 9th and overlooked by all. He could takeover the whole country down to the tribal councils if he gets another 911 and he gets to decide what a 911 is this time. Bless the birds with the hearts of lions.

Of course bird droppings are good luck. So is choking on a pretzel, falling off a bike(and segueway), dropping a puppy, making a baby cry, being pecked by a turkey, amd having your best bud shoot someone in the face. Everyone knows all that stuff is good luck!

Do we remember the space shuttle that disintegrated over Texas before the war started? Believe in signs anyone?
