Dodd Throws A Punch at Edwards

Sen. Chris Dodd D-Conn., is taking a punch at his 2008 Democratic presidential rival Sen. John Edwards' new campaing ad which urges Congess to challenge President Bush's veto of the Iraq war supplmental bill.

In a statement releaed Wednesday, Dodd's National Press Secretary Kristy said, "as Senator, Dodd was the first candidate to support the Reid-Feingold measure, we agree that Democrats in the Senate should stand up to a President who stubbornly refuses to change his failed policy in Iraq,"

"We wish that Senator Edwards was still in the Senate for this important fight, If we can't get his vote in the Senate, of course we would welcome Senator Edwards ' support for Senator Dodd's plan, which would safely re-deploy out troops and bring an end to this war within one year rather than the incremental eighteen-month approach he has proposed."

Edwards team responded through a spokesperson who said, "John Edwards has called for the immediate withdrawal of 40,000 to 50,000 troops followed by an orderly withdrawal of 12 to 18 months."

Dodd has been trying to distinguish himself in the crowded Democratic presidential field by highlighting his support for the Reid-Feingold measure.
