Fmr Clinton Official Endorses Giuliani
May 31, 2007 7:50 AM
ABC News' Jan Simmonds Reports: Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, R-N.Y., was endorsed by former FBI Director Louis Freeh today at a press conference in New York City.
Freeh was FBI director for eight years and has had a long-running feud with his former boss, President Clinton.
Announcing his endorsement, Freeh said, "I don't think that this comes down to politics," adding it was an "honor and privilege" to endorse Giuliani.
Freeh also touted Giuliani's credentials as a crime fighting prosecutor and the times they shared in the Justice Department. The former director's endorsement gives Giuliani another way to keep the focus on the main theme of his presidency, which is his image as a strong leader against terrorism and crime.
At the same press conference, Giuliani unveiled his proposal to broaden COMPSTAT, a crime measurement program co-developed by former NYPD Commissioner and now LAPD Commissioner Bill Bratton, nationally.
Giuliani wants to spread its methods of keeping statistics to hold all federal agencies accountable and be able to pinpoint and resolve problems more quickly. In the weeks ahead, Giuliani plans to lay out more details for how this could work on a national level and for non-crime related agencies.
The former Mayor also mentioned several times that he met with Bill Bratton while he was in California. The two have had a sometimes tenuous relationship over the years, which insiders say was caused by Giuliani being disgruntled over the credit Bratton received for cleaning up NYC that Giuliani believed he should have received. Over the last several months it appears they have patched up their friendship to some degree.

Nitya,
Could you please stop pushing the Giuliani guy as "America's Mayor". I mean, c'mon. Therez enough propagandizing in the media already. We don't want more from the independent media.
Thanks much

Bias, as always, is in the eye of the beholder.
