Fred Thompson to Enter '08 Race

ABC News' Rick Klein Reports: Former GOP senator Fred Thompson, R-Tenn., is eying an early July launch for his presidential campaign, and plans to create a fund-raising entity June 4 to start raising the millions he will need for his presidential campaign.

A GOP source tells ABC News that Thompson told key fund-raisers yesterday to prepare to write checks in early June. That fund-raising entity – not an exploratory committee – can be established for 60 days, meaning Thompson will have to make a decision inside of that window.

Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Tenn., -- a key Thompson backer -- declined to confirm the timeline, but said, “Early June is certainly going to be an exciting time. And the 4th of July is certainly within those 60 days.”

Good, good. Thompson should shake up an increasingly boring Republican field.

Not sure if he's got a shot at the Presidency, but he's certainly capable of taking the nomination.

Thompson looks like a good GOP candidate. We could use someone in DC that's not a career politician.

People, he's Ronald Reagan with no hair. Another politician-turned-actor-turned-politician with a nifty catch phrase and the appearance of character backed up by slick phrases and glib talk. Of course all of the Repub sheep will jump right on his bandwagon with no questions asked because he'll sound good on stage. Sheesh, America is doomed......and what kills me is the repubs complain about lefty Hollywood and then go and try to elect an actor....

Great! Another Reagan wannbe. How pathetic the Republicans keep looking to the past instead of the future.
Who's he going to pick as a running
mate, Ed Asner? No, Fred would have resume envy.

Fred is a copy of Reagan. Did the Republicans ever stop to think that a copy quickly diminishes from the quality of the original. The Iraq war is not a television show, we need serious leaders NOT flavor of the month
celebrities.

He's not Ronald Reagan, he doesn't even compare. Reagan was a better actor and politician.

Democrats need to become religious for a day and pray to God that Thompson changes his mind.

Bush, the RNC and the fool hardy Liberals now trying to run Congress have damned decidedly abandoned our country and Constitution. Open & welcome arms to illegals is an outward sign and invitation for terrorists to flood this country. The latino illegals aready hate the US. Imagine their hauty disdain if they are given amnesty..Bush and his family ties to Mexico are prompting him to push amnesty...The RNC could care less about the small contributors to the Party. They only want to push for an elite hand picked few for the Party. Plus collect$$$.
The liberals have hated freedom and the Constitution for years-generations. Their wish is to add new illigal bodies to the US wellfare class and hopefully pick up a few million votes--provided they can read.? The pages of facts and actions are very clear. There are A dangerous number of unpatriotic individuals in Congress, Administation,Govenment departments and agencies that have a mind set and belief to destroy the United States of America. Our Constitution is prophetic in warning citizens of such elitist tyrannical actions of government.... There is no doubt that destruction of our national borders and any disolution of our nations sovereignty, By any act of individuals of our representative government, are acts of high and unforgivable treason.

America does not want a retread, a rerun nor a sequel to what it has had for the last seven years; that's what Thompson is. The people want out of Iraq before our troops suffer 4000 deaths and 50000 wounded and the money pit hits 2 TRILLION. It wants to put its resources into fighting the real terrorists, securing the borders and ports, and keeping its growing elderly population from having to beg for medical attention.
