Giuliani Attempts to Clarify Donations to Abortion Rights Group
May 08, 2007 4:58 PM
ABC News' Jan Simmonds Reports: GOP presidential candidate former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, R-N.Y., responded Tuesday on the Laura Ingraham Radio Show to a report revealing his donations to Planned Parenthood, the abortion rights advocacy group.
Giuliani explained to the conservative talk-radio host that his previous donations to Planned Parenthood are consistent with his position on abortion, and that he believes women should be informed of their choices including adoption.
"On the issue of abortion, when you say you hate it and then it comes out that you actually donated money to planned parenthood, several different donations I think totaling $900, $900 dollars or something like that, why would you donate to something like planned parenthood that makes hundreds of millions of dollars off the procedure that you say you hate?" asked Ingraham.
Giuliani replied: "Because Planned Parenthood makes information available. It's consistent with my position … I disagree with (abortion), I think it is wrong."
The Republican White House contender went on to say, "I think there should be a choice. If there is gonna be choice there are organizations that are going to give people information about that choice. I just as strongly support the idea that women should have information about adoption at that time."

Ok, so he's pro-choice. That would seem to disqualify him from the nomination. I'm far more frightened by that used car salesman Romney.

Well put, Andy. I'm so tired of my ovaries having to be a political football. No woman does this on a whim, or a dare, or becasue she's never had one. Enough already! I don't want to make the personal health decisions of any politican so they should show me the same right to privacy.

Sorry Brian... Planned Parenthood is the nations largest provider of abortions. I support them, this is not a criticism.

What gets to me the most is how nobody is calling him a flip flopper yet. It's time that republican smear artists get a taste of their own idiotic medicine.

Well, which is it with Planned Parenthood?
I think Mike is DEAD WRONG - but come on ABC, give us all some real information. That's what we tune in for...

In response to Matt: Actually, every leading dem candidate is beating Guilliani in the polls -- at least according to the most recent Newsweek poll

Matt, what are you talking about? The top three Dems ALL beat Giuliani in the most recent polls, by a nice margin. I hope this flip-flopping sinks Rudy's boat, though. He was a terrible mayor - "law and order" at the expense of civil liberties for blacks, etc. We can't forget this is a guy who thought it was okay to put Bernard Kerik, an indicted felon, in the top security position in the country. Bah-bye and good riddance.
