Hagel Calls for Gonzales to Resign
May 16, 2007 11:44 AM
ABC News' Z. Byron Wolf Reports: It is becoming hard to keep track of all the Republicans in the Senate who have called for the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, but after Tuesday's stunning testimony by former Deputy AG James Comey, add Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., to the list.
Others, including Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Penn., have come just short of calling for a resignation.
"The American people deserve an Attorney General, the chief law enforcement officer of our country, whose honesty and capability are beyond question. Attorney General Gonzales can no longer meet this standard," said a statement by Hagel Wednesday.
"He has failed this country. He has lost the moral authority to lead. Comey’s testimony yesterday brings to light the latest episode in a series of questionable actions by Attorney General Gonzales. It is another part of a pattern of flawed decision making by the Attorney General."
"America is a nation of laws. In the interest of the American people, Alberto Gonzales should resign now," Hagel said.

The whole of the constitutional process has been taken from this country, its time that we wake up and assumme the responsibilty for taking back and protecting our country

This man is obviously a criminal thug. Resigning is too good for him. He should be hog-tied and beaten like his many victims at Abu Ghraib. Then he should be held in solitary confinement for six months.

I bet a stay at Gitmo would change is view on the quaint Geneva Conventions. He would also expect a lawyer.

When he authorized torture in violation of US principles and violated international agreements he should have been called on the carpet immediately and removed. And Bush. And Cheney.

Funny how ideas and statements come back to haunt ya. By taking his implication and other conseravative statements re: the new laws he has forced upon America, well, If you have nothing to hide, if you are a law abideing citizen, if you are not a terrorist - you will have nothing to fear (about the new invasive laws "protecting' us) so IF he has nothing to hide OR IF the White House (read: Bush) has nothing to hide let him talk (and make Rice talk) IF not we can only conclude because of what you have taught us recently - You Do Have Something To Hide.

But what about Bush's call to Mrs. Ashcroft as her husband was sick in the ICU??? What about Bush sending Card and Abu Gonzo over to the hospital to try and force Ashcroft to sign off on his illegal activities, when COMEY was the AG??? What about the fact that Bush approved FOR TWO WEEKS the continued warrantless wiretapping despite the fact that Attorney General Comey, former and sick AG Ashcroft, even FBI director Robert Mueller were set to RESIGN if he didn't stop it? This is INSANE, people! I mean, what constitutes a "high crime"? If even John Ashcroft and Robert Mueller didn't approve of it and Bush & Co. didn't have approval, aren't we talking about felonious or worse activities on the part of members of the administration??? When are the American people going to say enough is enough?

It is about time.
All government workers are sworn to protect and defend the Constitution from ALL ENEMIES, foreign and DOMESTIC. Gonzales, (& the rest of this Administration) are ENEMIES OF THE CONSTITUTION.
Congress- do your sworn duty. Thank you Chuck Hagel. You are a true Patriot.
And a huge thank you for bringing up the necessary word-
IMPEACHMENT!!!!!

The blinders must come off this nation.
This Administration has committed high crimes and should be removed from office through impeachment. It does not matter if you are a Republican or a Democrat or an Independant, humanity has been insulted by this administration. International laws and common laws of the world and world history have been violated with impunity. We as a nation should take on the burden of impeachment and prove to the world that we are decent, law abiding, contributing citizens to this world. We have criminals in the White House who will eat their own and spit in our faces at the same time. It is worse than any "games" that has or could be made up. We can not let this administration continue in its present form or we will eaten alive by their continued behavior of marching all of us to the cliff of total destruction. We need real thoughtful leaders, not the minions of 2008. Be damned with Conservatives or Liberals we are in a fight for our lives and don't even know it.

When Comey called Mueller and asked him to meet him at the hospital, Mueller immediately called the security detail at the hospital, and instructed the G-men there that under no circumstances were they to allow Comey to be removed from the room. Get it? The Directer of the FBI is treating Gonzalez and Card like they are a pair of thugs from a bad movie.

Once again, just like every other time, Spector comes short of doing the right thing.

Why don't the Democrats have the guts to impeach him?

"The American people deserve an Attorney General, the chief law enforcement officer of our country, whose honesty and capability are beyond question. Attorney General Gonzales can no longer meet this standard," --statement by Sen Chuck Hagel on Wednesday --
Question: When did Gonzo ever meet that standard?

Interesting that this man is actually from a different culture, his grandparents came across illegally from Mexico. He's applied a third-world standard to the laws and policies of the U. S.

Atterney General Gonzales as head the of the Dept. of Injustice should be impeached. ..."Faith in the ability of a leader is of slight service unless it be united with faith in his justice". ...George Goethals". P.S. My Pet Goat is a more important read than America is under attack.

Why has impeachment proceedings not started yet ? The calls for a special prosecutor should be coming out of so many politicians mouths that even the traditional media could not ignore the truth anymore. What am I missing? Does it really have to be about sex before impeachment is warranted?.

Gonzales is a disgrace but the most disgraceful is Bush. For all his pedigree and background, Bush is nothing but a scummy lying jerk who went to the best schools yet learned nothing. Bush and most of his minions shouldbe fired and maligned for the damage they have done.

Hagel said "America is a nation of laws. In the interest of the American people, Alberto Gonzales should resign now."
If America were a nation of laws, Gonzales & Co. would be indicted and tried, instead of being asked to resign.

Alberto has his "get out of jail free card" why else would he have that smirk on his face yesterday, he is pathetic

BushCo has made a mockery of our Constitution and the justice system. The only way to BEGIN to reclaim it is to stand up and use the rule of law to refute their tactics.
