ABC News' A'Melody Lee Reports: Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani are at risk of alienating two of the most influential conservative organizations in Iowa by deciding not to take part in an upcoming presidential candidates' forum.

"Their message is not getting through," said Steve Scheffler, the head of the Iowa Christian Alliance. "The average conservative caucus voter on the Republican side, three quarters of them are pro-life and pro-marriage." The Iowa Christian Alliance is co-sponsoring the event with Iowans for Tax Relief.

The McCain and Giuliani absences mean that former Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., will be the only top-tier Republican presidential candidate fielding questions about taxes, spending, marriage, border security, and stem cell research in front of 4,000 conservative activists in the state.

The decisions on the part of Giuliani and McCain to skip the forum follow a June 6 announcement that they will not invest resources in winning the Iowa Republican Party's Aug. 11 Straw Poll. Both candidates have indicated that they plan to compete in the state’s caucuses which lead off the Republican Party’s nominating process in January.

McCain and Giuliani have had uneven relationships with religious conservatives. McCain opposes a federal constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and Giuliani supports abortion rights.

Romney will be joined by five other Republican presidential candidates: Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., as well as former Govs. Tommy Thompson, R-Wis., and Mike Huckabee, R-Ark., and Reps. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., and Duncan Hunter, R-Calif. The candidates, who will not appear together at the same time, will each be given 30 minutes to speak.

When asked why they would not attend the forum, the McCain and Giuliani campaigns declined to comment.

They both favor surrender to Mexico. The both want to take your guns away. Now why would they have problem getting conservatives to vote for them?

Ron Paul is not going to make a difference in this election. I would hope that they would invite Fred Thompson - now that is man who is going somewhere!!

I would love to know what Fred Thompsons stances are on the issues, can anyone enlighten me? Is he hiding from the debates? why are we even talking about this guy. He brings nothing new to the table (other than he is an actor which is the art of portraying someone you are not perfect for politics)Can someone tell me what he has accomplished that is so great?

Ron Paul in 2008

Focus on the Family has alreaady denounced Fred Thompson as unworthy of Christians support. He simply is not a Christia. He divorced his middle-aged wife to immediately marry a young woman in her twenties. He has fully absorbed and embraced the moral atmosphere of Hollywood, which is certainly not acceptable for a man who wants to be President.

Ron Paul is a Bible-believing Christiand who remains married to his one and only wife by whom he has fathered five children. He is right and his moral beliefs are right for America.
