Bush and Putin: A Fishy Story
July 02, 2007 3:23 PM
ABC News' Stephanie Smith Reports: Forget missile defense, Kosovo, democracy and Iran. The one and only agreement that came out of this summit is that Russian President Vladimir Putin was the victor…in fishing, that is. Putin along with Bush 43, 41, and prized local fisherman Billy Bush -- no relation to the Bush family -- went fishing in the choppy waters of the Atlantic just off Walker's Point this morning. Putin scored big -- catching a striped bass and posing proudly for the White House photographer in an adjacent boat.
"I'd like to congratulate President Putin for being the only person that caught a fish today," Bush later joked at the top of an informal press conference the two leaders held on dry land.
Putin made sure to let everyone know: "Mind you, the fish that we've caught, we let it free," which is a Bush family tradition here in Kennebunkport as spokesman Tony Snow noted, "any fish that get caught are quickly and humanely liberated."
Standing nearby with the large scrum of reporters, Bush Senior, who told them that the fish Putin caught was 30 inches long. Once the White House photo was released, reporters began to question that assessment. We asked a White House official if he could clear up the discrepancy. He laughed and said "the fish is only going to get bigger."
Well, you be the judge. Seems like a fish tale to me.

Too bad Georgie doesn't have as much repsect for human life as he does for fish. Or was this a hoax also just to impress Putin?

I am glad that GWB pardoned Libby; He demonstrated good judgement!
About that fish; You have no idea how much that fish may help us in Moscow.

Because of Bush we are headed for a great depression and a huge nuclear war!

Nothing more cozy than two totalitarian dictators getting together for a little fishing.

Another 5"9' big fish released last night--Scooter "red herring" Libby. Unlike the small fish stuck in Guantanamo Bay.

thirty inches? glad there are some reporters who don't take the white house spin at face value.

What a coincidence! Another fishy story! The official account of the events of 911 is also very fishy! Hey, ABC, why not be the first "major network" to broadcast all of the 911 truth activism going on around this country. Or are you waiting for sweeps?
