Feingold to Introduce Censure Resolution Condemning Bush
July 22, 2007 12:08 PM
ABC News' Tahman Bradley Reports: Sen. Russ Feingold D-Wis., announced Sunday that within the next few days he will introduce a censure resolution condemning President Bush and members of the Bush administration for misconduct relating to the Iraq war and other matters.
In an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press," Feingold said he believes the president and vice president have committed impeachable offenses with regard to the NSA surveillance program and that the Bush administration has "done the greatest assault on our constitution perhaps in American history."
"The American people are outraged at the way they have been treated," said Feingold. "They are outraged at the dishonesty that they have been subjected to and the American people, we deserve better than the way we've been treated."
Feingold accused Vice President Cheney of making misleading statements relating to the Iraq war and said he may introduce a similar censor resolution for the VP.
"Vice President Cheney has been one of the worse actors in American history in this situation," the senator said.
Feingold called for censorship of President Bush back in March 2006 for the NSA's warrantless wiretapping program accusing the president of "consciously and intentionally violating the Constitution and laws" of the US. The move was seen as highly political and only managed to gain support from a handful of Democrats.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced Sunday that he would not go along with the measure. "The president already has the mark of the American people -- he's the worse president we ever had. I don't think we need a censure resolution in the Senate to prove that," Reid said on CBS's "Face the Nation".
White House Deputy Press Secretary Dana Perino responded Sunday by pointing to legislative priorities the White House thinks Congress should focus on.
"We realize that Senators Reid, Durbin and Feingold do not care much for the President's policies, but we would welcome the opportunity to work with them and anyone else in the Senate majority on legislation to fund our troops, make us less reliant on foreign sources of energy, to make health care more affordable, to pass the bills necessary to fund our government and to extend tax rleief to America's families and businesses. Perhaps after calls for censure and more investigations Congress may turn to such things," Perino said in a statement.

If the Senators really want to do something about president Bush, they should start every investigation conceivable to find wrong doings by him. If found, they should charge him and start an investigation by an independent counsel. This censor business is not in our laws. It would have no effect on the way Bush conducts himself. Do it the right way; be patient.

An independent investigation sounds great. The problem is, who can we trust to ensure it is truly independent and unbiased? Given the clumsy detective work on everything from 9/11, the FEMA Katrina debacle, and the handling of the war on terror, is an independent review (and prosection) even possible? It's beginning to sound like it's already too late to reverse the tyrannical course of this administration; and more importantly, the shadowy business interests controlling them. I suspect this is why our Constitution left the option of armed uprising as a viable means to replace a government corrupted beyond the ability of the law to restrain.

These senators who wish to divide by their political misconduct rather than unite are a disgrace to our country. I hope they all get voted out. All they care about is spewing hatred and lies for the other party, and their political careers. They don't represent us anymore as they are all corrupt. It's sad to see our country not able to work together anymore. It's not just republicans and democrats fighting with eachother: they're is inhouse fighting within each party. Most democrats don't agree with Feingold on this matter. Every American with a thread of common sense and knowledge of our history knows or senses we are in trouble as a nation, having lost our way. May God send us His revival and get us back on track. United we stand, divided we fall. A house divided against itself can not stand.

To all the Bush lovers tallking about reconciliation and jioning hands and singing kubaya, you had your chance at that. Bush campaigned in 2000 as the "Uniter" but changed into the "Decider" the whole world ws with us after 9/11 and Bush squandered every ounce of it by ruling with the GOP majorities in house and Senate as he pleased without any regard for the Democrats or any other person or allied nation that disagreed with his incompetence.
His arrogance is in the process of securing another Democratic era in US politics . The GOP screwed up the country more in 12 years than it took the Democrats 40 years to do before them. .............Molacai

about time. playing flimflam with the constitution, 12 trillion a month war along with tax breaks for the reach and more corporate benefits.
americans are looking for statesmen and they don't care which party or other steps up to the plate. It's been beginning to sound like only Bloomberg has the guts. Hear hear for Feinstein. Conservative and constitutional values salute you.

When Bush was the Gov of Texas, he let a lot of murders be executed, being as how his Christian beliefs say that the punishment should fit the crime. So if he were to be impeached, he should be able to understand why, because his punishment would fit his crimes....

"These senators who wish to divide by their political misconduct rather than unite are a disgrace to our country. I hope they all get voted out. "
What does this kind of anti-American attitude among Republicans say about their belief in American values, Democracy, and the rule of law. Democracy is considered "political misconduct". Patriots are "a disgrace to our country" and they hope that anyone who supports the troops "
all get voted out".
You see it with their pardoning of those who, like Scooter Libby, cover-up for those who commit treason. You see it with their attacks on organizations that, like the ACLU, defend our freedoms. You see it with their support government spying on Americans and control of our personal lives. You see it in their support for torture and their defense of the idea of committing war crimes. You see it in their support for a wars of aggression for the purposes of personal profit of their friends and allies. You see it in their siphoning of our tax dollars to their friends and allies.
Is there any wonder why the Republican party sickens me and the American public.

"On January 20th, 2009, if George Bush and Dick Cheney are not appropriately held to account this Administration will hand off a toolbox with more powers than any President has ever had, more powers than the founders could have imagined. And that box may be handed to Hillary Clinton or it may be handed to Mitt Romney or Barack Obama or someone else. But whoever gets it, one of the things we know about power is that people don't give away the tools." — John Nichols on Bill Moyers Journal (7/13/07)

It's a little confusing, the Vice President has already stated that he isn't apart of the Executive Chamber even though he creates and carries out Presidential Policy with the approval of the President. Does this mean technically we have a defacto Presidency? Even more troubling is the Line of Succesion which is filled with Polictical Appointees with little or no understanding of our US Constitution and Americanism. Would this then mean that all appointments have become null and void? I wish this could be clarified so that I won't think that I've been educationally deprived.

Isn't it censure, not censor? Not that Cheney doesn't sometimes need censoring. But where are the editors for this site?

Censure is a good start!

They both need to be IMPEACHED. They have run this country down into a deep pit. Instead of spending money on a useless war on terror, they could have spent all that money on U.S. citzens who need help, or pay off some debts. They hide information from the American people, they think they are above the law. They refuse to answer questions about 9/11, the Iraq war, WMD's, and there energy task force. They are expanding the empire for one reason, and that is oil.If the media was not bought and paid for by the elite, they would have been impeached a long time ago.It is time for American to wake up, we need to take a long look at our country, and decide if we need to change all of ourleaders.I believe Republican's and Democrat's need to be replaced. All American's should vote third party in the next election. They need to know, useless wars, scare tactics will not work on us anymore.

It is comical how our legislative branch seems to have nothing better to do than to b***h, about how the Pres. & Vp have messed up. If I remember correctly the legislative branch was right there supporting the Iraq decision - knowing full well the mess it would become trying to control a city the size of Baghdad let alone the surrounding country side. Now we have our elected officials instead of working on the "Peoples" business concoting censure votes. Big deal it carries no weight, and is a waste of time, but what am i thinking what; Congress and the Senate do is a monumental waste of time. It is all CYA so when the next election cycle comes around, and it is coming; they can say - in order to appear on the correct side of the debate. Mor and more I'm thinking that "None of the above" should appear on the ballots. Congress should pay better attention since their approval rating is only slightly better than the Presidents.

Censuring Bush and Cheney is great - for starters. But, as traitors to the constitution and the principles that have made us great, they should be imnpeached and prosecuted for their crimes against the American people.
